Davide Jean Sorel Saraceno, a twenty-year-old living in the Roman suburbs, and his girlfriend Ivana Lea Massari have just become parents to a young son. Blamed by both his own mother and Ivana's mother for his idle, reckless ways, Davide sets out to find a day job. On his way, he runs into his former girlfriend Marina Jeanne Valérie, who describes herself as a manicure but actually works as a prostitute. After a brief sexual encounter, Marina helps him blackmail her client Moglie Paolo Stoppa into giving Davide a job, which consists simply in accompanying driver Carpiti Rik Battaglia who carries out tasks for the shady industrialist Romani Luigi Giacosi.

On their way, the two men cheat Sabina Isabelle Corey out of her money, before meeting with their customer. Freya Valeria Ciangottini, Romani's mistress, takes an interest in Davide and, after sending Carpiti away under a pretense, sleeps with him on the beach. Afterwards, she gives him 50,000 lire which will help Davide acquire a steady job at a general market, though Davide loses almost all of the money due to his inattentiveness. But he manages to steal a precious ring from a corpse in an open casket.

That evening, he returns home to Ivana and her mother Irene Aloisi, bragging about his money and toying with his young son.
