In the waning days of World War II, Europe trembles between ruin and rebirth. The streets of Cologne and the shattered alleys of Berlin are lit by the orange glow of ruin, while the clang of occupying forces reshapes every routine. A fragile truce hovers over a city split by rival armies, and the air is thick with uncertainty, hope, and the lingering echo of ideologies that once ruled. Against this backdrop emerges Foster MacLain, an American soldier who has slipped the bonds of captivity and is searching for anyone willing to extend a hand.
