College students Andy McGee and Vicky Tomlinson volunteer for an experiment involving a hallucinogen known as LOT-6. While the drug negatively affects other participants, it grants Vicky the ability to read minds and Andy the power to control others' actions.

Andy and Vicky, now married, welcome their daughter Charlene 'Charlie' McGee into the world. Charlie inherits unique powers, allowing her to manipulate heat and fire and foresee events in the near future.

Andy comes home from work to discover a horrific scene: Vicky has been murdered and Charlie has been abducted. Signs indicate that 'The Shop,' the government agency behind their experiment, is involved, suspecting that they want to weaponize Charlie's abilities.

Desperate to save his daughter, Andy locates Charlie and manages to rescue her by using his powers to blind the agents pursuing them. This act marks the beginning of a year-long flight from the very agency that created them.

Andy and Charlie find sanctuary with farmer Irv Manders and his wife, Norma. They share their story with Irv, who prepares to assist them in facing ‘The Shop’ when agents eventually come.

When agents from 'The Shop' arrive, a frightened Charlie unleashes her powers, swiftly dispatching them. Despite their successful defense, this event leads to another hasty escape as they realize their situation remains precarious.

Andy seeks a secluded cabin to hide as they plan to go public with their story. However, with Andy’s powers waning, they brace for another confrontation with 'The Shop' led by Captain James Hollister.

Despite Andy's attempts to warn the press about their situation, his actions unintentionally reveal their hiding place. They are captured, and father and daughter are forcibly separated, facing a grim reality of testing and manipulation.

Charlie encounters John Rainbird, who masquerades as a friendly orderly to gain her trust. While pretending to care for her, he has ulterior motives that threaten both her and Andy's safety.

Andy pretends to accept his medication to trick Hollister into believing he is weak. During a chance encounter, he uses his powers to extract crucial information about Rainbird and plans their escape.

As Andy prepares to flee with Charlie, Rainbird realizes their intentions and positions himself to ambush them. When Charlie inadvertently reveals her father's plans, it sets off a series of deadly confrontations.

To protect Charlie, Andy commands the mind-controlled Hollister to confront Rainbird. The ensuing chaos leads to Andy's fatal injury, and Charlie is left to confront the reality of her powers.

In the wake of tragedy, Charlie unleashes her powers to combat Rainbird. She detonates a bullet aimed at her, engulfing him in flames and ultimately avenging her father.

Following her father's last request, Charlie systematically eliminates the security team at ‘The Shop’ before finally making her escape. Her powers spark chaos, allowing her to slip away unnoticed.

Charlie makes her way back to Manders’ farm, where she is welcomed back with open arms. Shortly thereafter, she travels to New York City to share her family's story with the media, hoping to shed light on the horrors of 'The Shop'.
