Eye for an Eye

Anna Reeves arrives at May Roberts's home in Florida and is introduced to May's sister Patti. She settles in and begins to cope with the loss of her parents, trying to make sense of the new environment.

She wanders into the woods behind the house and meets Shawn and Julie, two local teens who invite her to share a beer. The moment offers a small sense of belonging amid her grief.

The trio discovers a large ancient tree bearing Anna's grandmother's name carved into the bark, a sign that something dark and old may be at work in the forest. The find unsettles them and hints at a looming danger.

Patti explains that May used to be a talented but malicious cheerleader and recounts the local legend of Sandman, a figure who punishes evildoers by haunting their dreams. The story plants unease about what might be happening to the trio.

The trio ends up on a bridge where Shawn spots Conner being harassed and pushed off the railing, resulting in a broken arm. He is rushed to the hospital, and Shawn threatens Conner to keep quiet.

Anna escorts Conner home, then returns to her room and cries herself to sleep. The event deepens Anna's unease as she senses a growing danger lurking in the woods.

Conner visits Patti; she urges him to stand up for himself and explains that carving bullies' names into the old tree could invite Sandman's punishment. He listens, but worries about what that might unleash.

That night, Conner carves the names Shawn, Julie, and Anna into the tree, binding their fates to the forest's curse. The act marks a turning point as supernatural consequences begin to unfold.

Anna begins to suffer nightmares, reliving her parents' death and fearing a drowning in a coffin. The dreams hint at the rising power of Sandman haunting the living.

In a vivid dream, Anna hears the story of Vincent, a blind boy with glass eyes who was bullied to death in the forest. The tale helps explain how Sandman rose to haunt the area.

Tensions erupt when Anna has an altercation with Shawn; she shows him and Julie the tree. Sandman then tears out Shawn's eyes, a skeletal, rooted figure, and Shawn staggers away, seemingly dying after crashing into a branch.

The next morning, Julie drowns in the bathtub after Sandman tears out one of her eyes. The group realizes the forest's curse has real, deadly consequences.

Back at May's house, May drugs and ties Anna to her bed, intending to remove Anna's eyes for herself. Anna fights back, injuring her arm with a hammer—an injury Conner once inflicted—while May stabs Patti in the eye during a struggle, leaving both women unconscious.

In a dreamlike sequence, Anna finds two glass eyes on the floor in Sandman's lair and hands them over to him, who spares her. She wakes up in her own bed with her eyes intact, the nightmare finally concluded but the memory of the forest's curse lingering.
