The film ends with the true nature of Alex’s nocturnal torment finally revealed. After Mallory discovers that the strange figure haunting his sleep is Phobetor — the ancient Greek god of nightmares — she learns that the deity has been using Alex as a vessel since his birth, a consequence of a cult ritual performed by his father’s “Night’s Disciples.” Because Alex has just turned thirty, the night he is confronting the god becomes the final step in Phobetor’s plan to fully possess him.

When the power goes out and Mallify checks on Alex, she finds the bedroom empty and a macabre scene in the garage: a dead animal hanging on the door and a wall covered in frantic sketches of the deity. The ever‑spinning roundabout outside moves on its own, and an eerie whistle echoes through the house. Alex, now overtaken by Phobetor, attacks Mallory with savage strength, while the god’s shadowy presence hovers beside him, guiding his blows.

Desperate, Mallory hides in a closet, but Phobetor whispers the exact location of her hiding place to Alex, who then bursts in and assaults her again. Realising that the only way to stop the nightmare is to end Alex’s life, Mallory gathers the courage to stab the man she loves. As she does, Alex, aware that his death will finally close the door on Phobetor’s hunger, stops her from calling 911.

The story then jumps forward a few weeks. Mallory is left to process Alex’s corpse and the footage she captured, which now serves as a grim chronicle of his descent. A colleague offers to edit the material into a documentary that could launch her career, but Mallory’s thoughts are shattered when she discovers she is pregnant. In a final, haunting vision, Alex’s blood‑streaked, naked figure appears again, whispering that she will never truly be free of him.

Thus the ending ties together the mythic curse, the couple’s broken relationship, and the lingering terror that even death cannot fully erase, leaving Mallory trapped between grief, a looming motherhood, and the ghost of a nightmare that may yet follow her into the future.
