Jody and her boyfriend Kevin Banks hatch a plan to rob a convenience store. The trio’s sense of time fractures further when Sam asserts the year as 1962, which startles Jody who believes they are in 1985. When Tom is asked the current year, he claims it is 2011, compounding the confusion and underscoring that something otherworldly is at play.

Outside the cabin, a gunshot punctures the air, and they meet a German soldier named Hans. Hans is initially hostile, unable to speak their language, and he binds Tom while interrogating the others through Sam (who understands German). His mission becomes urgent when he discovers that Jody and Sam share a locket containing a photo of his wife, a detail that shatters his assumptions. As Hans’s aggression gives way to desperation, Tom heroically breaks free and knocks him unconscious. The clues converge when they discover they are in the woods near Wieluń in 1945, just as an airstrike looms on the horizon that will seal Hans’s fate. Tom resolves to safeguard Hans from the catastrophe, hoping that sparing him will bend the arc of all their fates toward a better outcome for the people they care about. The attempt goes awry: Jody is shot, and Tom vanishes in the chaos, witnessed only by a furious Sam who accuses Hans of murder and betrayal.

In an act of desperate mercy, Sam persuades Hans to accompany them to a protected shelter. On their perilous march, Sam slips and strikes her head on a rock; Hans carries her to safety as they reach the shelter in time. Inside, Hans notices that Sam’s very existence seems unstable, marked by an on-and-off presence, and then she vanishes.

The scene loops back to the opening moment, but now the grocery-store setting plays out in a different way: the 1985 version of the same robbery unfolds with [Jody] continuing the pattern, re-enacting the same confrontation with the same cashier. The revelation comes in a final, sweeping twist: while Hans survives the 1945 airstrike and eventually makes his way to the United States, where he becomes a philanthropist, his life ends in 1985. Sam survives childbirth and goes on to live a peaceful life with Jody, completing a circle that binds the four of them across time.
