Eastern Condors

Lam is assigned a top secret mission to Vietnam to destroy a bunker filled with missiles before the Viet Cong can reach them. A group of 12 Chinese American convicts is selected for the mission, promised pardon, U.S. citizenship, and 200,000 dollars each upon completion. They undergo a brief training session before deployment.

The team is dropped into enemy territory, but Lam learns that the mission has been aborted. The sudden cancellation leaves them stranded behind enemy lines with few clear orders and no backup. They must decide how to proceed on their own.

During the jump, one convict miscounts the release and dies on landing. The rest push forward, shaken by the loss and aware that danger will follow them into hostile territory. The mission environment becomes brutally real from the start.

In enemy territory the group is met by three Cambodian guerrillas who help them seek refuge in a small town. They meet Rat Chieh and his mentally ill Uncle Yeung-Lung, who are brought along after a request related to Colonel Yeung's death in a plane explosion. Rat is reluctant but compelled to join the convicts on this mission.

Lam follows the request from Colonel Yeung to extract Yeung-Lung and reluctantly includes Rat as a tag along. The two new members join the convicts, adding tension and new dynamics to the group. The team continues toward their objective with a heavier burden.

The squad is captured and imprisoned in a POW camp where prisoners are forced to play Russian roulette. The scene echoes the intensity of war time games and deepens the fear within the group. Escaping becomes a key goal as the environment grows more dangerous.

They manage to escape from the POW camp, and Yeung-Lung is revealed to have been faking mental illness to stay protected. Rat also exposes a traitor among the Cambodian guerrillas, who is executed by Rat after being revealed. The group realizes that trust is scarce in this mission.

With Vietnamese military in pursuit, the team pushes toward the old American bunker. They suffer several casualties along the way as they race against the advancing forces. Lam orders the group to destroy the missiles inside, despite the risk.

The group reaches the bunker and must contend with internal threats. The Cambodian guerrilla leader wounds Lam while seeking the missiles for himself. In the chaos, Yeung-Lung is accidentally shot dead by the leader. The survivors brace for a final stand.

The Vietnamese general and his elite soldiers attack, forcing Tung, Rat, Lam, the Cambodians, and the surviving convicts to briefly team up. They fight fiercely and inflict heavy casualties on both sides before the balance tilts.

Many are killed in the firefight, including Lam and most of the Cambodians and convicts. The few remaining survivors must decide whether to press on with the mission or escape with their lives. Tung, Rat, and Dai Hoi push forward into uncertain freedom.

Tung fights the Giggling General and defeats him by shoving a grenade into the general's mouth. The personal duel marks a brutal turning point and symbolizes the collapse of the mission structure. The Giggling General is eliminated, ending his threat.

Tung, Rat, and Dai Hoi manage to destroy the missiles and escape the bunker through an underground tunnel. They are rescued by a helicopter presumably flown by the Americans out of Vietnam. The final escape closes the mission on a grim but hopeful note.
