Down to Earth

In Heaven, King and Keyes explain that Lance was taken too early. They reveal that they can help him return to Earth by finding a new body. The prospect of finishing his life on Earth begins to take shape.

The angels search through many bodies and choose Charles Wellington III, a rich businessman recently drowned in his tub. Lance learns that Charles's life will be the vessel for his return. He weighs the opportunity against his moral qualms.

King and Keyes send Lance back to Earth as Joe Guy, a great comedian who will die in a car accident. Joe survives the crash, carrying Lance's soul and continuing his pursuit of comedy. The reincarnation process restarts in a new body.

Joe Guy delivers a successful Apollo performance and reconnects with Whitney. The angels inform him that after this conversation he will not remember them or his past lives. They remind him that reincarnation means you are still yourself, no matter who you are.

After the angels leave, Joe has no memory of Lance or past lives but still reconnects with Whitney and Sontee. He unknowingly echoes Lance's earlier words, showing that his core personality remains. The memory wipe leaves him to continue his career while unknowingly carrying his former self forward.
