Deewaar: Let’s Bring Our Heroes Home

Indian Army Major Ranvir Kaul and about 30 colleagues are captured during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 and held in brutal conditions for 33 years. They endure beatings, isolation, and an unrelenting struggle to survive behind bars. The extended captivity becomes the catalyst for a long, dangerous fight to return home.

One prisoner manages to escape briefly and sends a letter home through a sympathetic contact. Kaul's wife and son petition the Indian Army for action, but a sympathetic General cannot intervene without hard evidence, leaving the fate of the men uncertain. The lack of concrete proof stalls any rescue attempt.

Gaurav Kaul, Ranvir Kaul's son, sets off on a mission to locate his father after learning of his captivity. He travels across borders and through quiet channels, determined to uncover the truth and reunite the family. His journey marks the personal stake in the larger rescue operation.

Gaurav meets Jabbar and learns that Kaul has been transferred to Saran Jail, a harsher prison run by the cunning warden Sohail Miyaan. Kaul encounters a new set of captured Indian POWs and steels himself for another attempt at escape. The new camp and its warden set a grimmer stage for their struggle.

Kaul and the fellow prisoners execute another escape attempt, pushing through an electric fence while guards lie in wait. One prisoner sacrifices himself on the fence, and others are blown up by hidden landmines as the plan falls apart. The failed effort hardens their resolve to press on.

Khan evades the minefield and escapes the prison perimeter. Gaurav later encounters Khan accidentally and brings him to safety, continuing to piece together a plan to free Kaul. The unlikely alliance strengthens the odds of a successful escape.

Gaurav stages a bold attack on a military courier and infiltrates a Pakistan Army office block, stealing plans that reveal a water main running beneath the prison. Kaul and the other prisoners use this discovery to plot a tunnel escape. The revelation injects new hope into their stubborn resistance.

As Kaul's group begins digging toward the water main, they discover the body of Indian Army Captain Jatin trapped in the debris. Kaul and Khan realize Jatin is actually a Pakistani spy who betrayed the plan. Khan informs Kaul of the treachery, forcing them to reassess whom to trust.

Jatin's betrayal is uncovered, and Kaul and Khan adjust their schedule to escape on the ninth night. Gaurav and Khan communicate with coded signals, including the number 9 marked on a supply truck as a reply. The plan remains fragile but alive despite the spy's interference.

On the night of the escape, the prisoners overpower guards and enter the water main tunnel. They begin digging toward freedom while Sohail closes in, adding to the urgency and danger. The escape reaches a fever pitch as they press toward the surface.

Inside the water main, one escapee sacrifices themselves on a land mine to block pursuit and allow the others to continue. The tunnel debris collapses behind them, buying precious seconds for Kaul and the others. They push onward toward the exit, narrowed to a final sprint.

The escapees reach a railway line and split up to avoid capture, trying to reach the border before they are hunted down. A firefight erupts near the frontier as Khan is killed and Kaul, Gaurav, and the remaining prisoners drive toward safety on an Indian Army truck. The pursuit tightens, but they press on toward India.

Sohail pursues across the border in a last-ditch chase, but Kaul and the freed prisoners confront him on Indian soil. In a final hand-to-hand duel, Kaul kills Sohail and throws his body across the border. The menace is eliminated as his men secure their safety on Indian ground.

With the mission accomplished, Ranvir Kaul and his men are reinstated in the Indian Army and salute the Indian tricolor. The long, brutal ordeal ends in national honor and the restored dignity of the surviving POWs. The victory stands as a testament to courage and resilience.
