Fame Douglas, the visionary founder and CEO of DOATEC, met an untimely demise at the end of the 20th century. He was famously known for orchestrating the esteemed Dead or Alive World Combat Championship. Following his death, the world was plunged into turmoil, with chaos unraveling rapidly. In a surprising move amidst the disorder, it was announced that the second Dead or Alive World Combat Championship would take place.
The very essence and importance of the tournament shifted dramatically in the wake of Douglas’s passing. The new promoter, Victor Donovan, a figure steeped in malice and corruption, bore a significant role in Douglas’s death. His dark influence transformed the tournament into a source of fear and despair, triggering the infamous tengu disaster, which shook the world to its core.
Set less than a year after the original tournament, an evil tengu known as Gohyakumine Bankotsubo, or simply Tengu, escaped from his realm, posing a dire threat to the fragile peace of the human world. Tengu’s disdain for humanity was palpable as he dismissed human existence as trivial, claiming that the disasters he unleashed were merely illusions he crafted.
The situation intensified when Kasumi, the victor of the first tournament, was captured by the DOATEC Super-human Development Project. She was forced into a harrowing experiment to create a body imbued with superhuman abilities. Although she managed to escape, a clone named Kasumi X was left behind in the wake of her captivity. Meanwhile, her brother Hayate, who had previously sustained grave injuries from Raidou, was also taken and subjected to DOATEC’s ruthless bio-weapon experiments. Although his nervous system underwent alarming modifications, the initiative ultimately floundered, leaving it a failure.
Enter Ryu Hayabusa (from Ninja Gaiden), who is drawn into the tumult of the tournament with a firm resolve to seek out and eradicate the evil tengu. Despite the harrowing nature of this mission—a task that could spell doom for any ordinary soul—Hayabusa felt a sense of duty to himself and humanity to confront his destiny. He attempted to enlighten other competitors, such as Jann Lee, about the perils of the tournament. However, many were too emboldened to retreat, prompting Hayabusa to incapacitate them instead.
In a twist of fate, he encountered a fighter named Ein, who was, in truth, the long-lost Hayate, afflicted by amnesia. During their fierce confrontation, Hayabusa emerged victorious, managing to spark fragments of Hayate’s memory. The climax unfolded when Hayabusa finally faced the malevolent Tengu, engaging in an epic battle that culminated in his ultimate triumph, as he vanquished Tengu and emerged as the champion of the tournament.
