Danur 2: Maddah

A year after returning to her childhood home, Risa and her sister Riri live in Bandung with Peter, William, and Janshen. They mostly visit Aunt Tina's residence since Elly has gone abroad with her husband. The family dynamics are affected by the ongoing hauntings that thread through their days.

Riri, newly a ballet rookie, performs on stage while Risa shouts in the audience. A ghost lurks behind Risa during the performance, unsettling the whole show. The presence hints at supernatural interference in their lives.

Peter, William, and Janshen encounter two fellow ghosts, Hendrick and Hans, who join their circle. The spectral friends add to the living world’s eerie texture. Their appearance expands the sense that the supernatural shares the home with the living.

Risa notices Ahmad growing aloof and increasingly compulsive, scattering tuberose vases around the residence. This odd behavior signals a hidden influence at work. The quiet shifts in Ahmad raise the alarm for what may come next.

Risa catches Ahmad walking with a woman, raising questions about his fidelity. She suspects something deeper is afoot behind the secretive meetings. The discovery deepens her resolve to uncover the truth behind the hauntings.

Tina experiences a terrifying encounter with a ghost and is hospitalized at a sanatorium. The haunting now touches multiple generations of the family. Her illness becomes a focal point for escalating supernatural events.

In the sanatorium, Risa meets a corpse purifier who can communicate with ghosts. He explains that foxy ghosts can choose whether their danur contacts human senses. He suggests maddah as a way to deepen one’s spiritual powers.

Angki challenges Risa to use her sixth sense to uncover the truth. Risa opens herself to a visiting ghost, who warns Angki that she will kill Ahmad. The warning raises the stakes for Ahmad’s safety and the family’s fate.

Risa shows Angki Ahmad’s diary, which claims he worships a woman named Elizabeth who will soon have her twenty-third birthday. He intends to meet with her, a plan that unsettles Risa. She suspects Elizabeth is a colonial-era Dutch girl with deadly intentions.

Risa gathers the diary and a photograph, deducing Elizabeth’s identity. She rushes to rescue Ahmad and tears down pictures of Dutch ladies in the residence. The act marks a decisive confrontation with the haunting and its symbols.

Ahmad is possessed by Elizabeth, and Risa, aided by her ghost friends, frees him from the possession. After the exorcism, Ahmad tears up the diary in distress. The immediate danger wanes, yet the mystery lingers.

Risa’s ghost friends introduce her to Ivanna, one of the Dutch women in the photos. Ivanna explains that her brother Dimas became Elizabeth’s boyfriend, a relationship opposed by Elizabeth’s father. After tragedy, Ivanna distances her family from Elizabeth.

Sometime later, Risa, Tina, Ahmad, Angki, and Riri attend the theater to watch Riri’s ballet. In the midst of the performance, Canting, the theater’s ghost, appears to Risa. The appearance suggests that the hauntings persist beyond the immediate events.
