Arnold Masters is a young man trapped in an institution for the criminally insane after being accused of a crime he did not commit. His nightmare begins with a heartbreaking sequence: his mother is gravely ill and needs an operation to remove a tumor, but because she has no insurance, the procedure is never performed. When Arnold returns to the doctor’s office, the physician is found dead and Arnold is quickly framed for murder. A rushed, sensational trial seals his fate: not guilty of murder, but guilty by reason of insanity. The twist of fate deepens when Arnold learns, only six months later, that his mother has died—a truth he discovers long after it matters.

Within the confines of the asylum, an inmate passes Arnold an amulet that unlocks a startling ability: astral projection—the power to separate his spirit from his body and travel beyond his physical shell. This newfound skill becomes Arnold’s fragile lifeline and, eventually, his weapon. Unbeknownst to them, Arnold’s astral form remains tethered to his life force and witnesses Laura inside his own home. The moment of truth arrives with a primal scream: Arnold realizes, in awful clarity, that his body is being turned to ash in the crematorium oven. The connection between mind and body proves fatal, and Arnold burns alive, a haunting end to a man miscast by a system and a world that never truly understood him.
