In Los Angeles, a dedicated ghost-hunting crew works on Ghost Sightings but faces a looming threat: their boss, Ms. Simon, warns that the show will be canceled if ratings don’t improve. When a mysterious visitor named Mr. Gaffney shows up, he claims there’s a haunted property back home that needs the crew’s attention. He asks them to “get rid of the ghosts,” but the team leader, Joel, tries to explain that their job is to document, not exorcise. The tension between chasing fame and pursuing truth sets the stage for a much deeper encounter with the supernatural.

Before stepping into the unknown, the crew stops for a meal and then heads toward the eerie destination: an abandoned prison. There, Clive, a former worker, offers a guided tour and cautions the team to turn back. He recounts a brutal prison history: a prisoner who escaped, murdered another inmate by snapping his neck, and then the brutal acts that followed. The tour continues into the infirmary, where Clive shares the chilling legend of a doctor who paralyzed inmate patients and ran illegal experiments to “fix” their psyche. The local lore holds that this physician was eventually jailed and killed by the very inmates he tormented. The grim tale foreshadows the danger the crew is about to confront, and the weight of the prison’s history hangs in the air.

That night, the team commences their overnight investigation. In the cell block, Roger is violently assaulted by the ghost of a former prisoner, and the entity possesses him, leaving behind deep gashes and bruises. Berger and Joel rush Roger to the video control room with Kate, and a decision is made to retreat, only to discover the doors are chain-locked from the outside. With limited medical supplies, they tend to Roger and realize they must move deeper into the infirmary to find help, but Berger is soon pulled away by more aggressive disturbances.

Desperate to understand what’s happening, Joel and Kate decide to locate Berger and, if possible, a way out. Kate is struck by the ghosts while searching the cell block but escapes thanks to a device Roger had bought that disrupts ghost energy. The spirits grow more aggressive as the encounter escalates: the ghost possesses Roger’s body again, cornering Kate and Joel on the prison’s third floor. The specters demand that they deliver the doctor who tortured them. Joel and Kate insist that the doctor has already died, but the haunting continues unabated. Roger, fighting the internal struggle, ultimately communicates with Joel and Kate, vowing not to let them be harmed on his watch before he sacrifices himself by hanging.

Following Roger’s death, the trio re-enters the search for Berger and finds him near the entryway. He hints at a second possible exit, and the group follows him toward a section of the grounds beyond the fence. Kate manages to grab a signal on her phone and calls the police, hoping for a real escape.

The next morning, the crew is released from the prison. They confront Clive about locking them inside, but he denies any involvement. As paramedics and police depart, they summon Mr. Gaffney to come inside and sense the energy shift for himself. He reveals a shocking truth: he is the doctor who tortured and sexually molested the inmates. Enraged, he confronts Joel and Kate about failing to rid the ghosts. In a tense confrontation, the trio outsmarts him and traps him inside, where the ghosts reclaim him, dragging him away from the prison doors. With the danger finally behind them, Joel, Kate, and Berger return to Los Angeles and vow to end Ghost Sightings once and for all.
