What Happens in Daisy: Full Plot Summary

The whole story of Daisy (1988) explained, from the opening scene to the final frame: every key event, every twist and what it all adds up to. Read it as a quick recap before the sequel, to check a scene you missed, or to finally understand what really happened.

Pradeep Menon Harish Kumar is a troubled teenager who studies at a boarding school in Ooty, in the Nilgiris. He is regarded as a troublemaker and is often punished by teachers and the stern headmaster, sometimes severely. When the beautiful Daisy Thomas Sonia joins the school, he mocks her on her first day, triggering a string of misadventures that draw more punishment on him. Yet this encounter also brings them closer, and a mutual attraction begins to blossom.

Daisy tries to help Pradeep. She is shocked to see how rude he is toward his mother, Malathy Menon [Lakshmi], but she cannot change him alone. He explains that the root of his anger lies in his father's death and his mother's decision to remarry, which left him feeling neglected.

Things improve when Malathy is confined to a hospital and Pradeep starts visiting her, strengthening their bond. Daisy's guidance helps him respond more positively, and he seems ready to turn a new leaf.

But Pradeep's world is turned upside down when he finds Daisy in the arms of James Kamal Haasan. The sight unsettles him and he regresses into self-destructive patterns, pushing away everyone around him.

He later learns that James is Daisy's older brother and that Daisy is terminally ill. Things take a dark turn as his mother passes away and he also loses Daisy. The film ends with him finding solace in James.

Why does Pradeep regress after seeing Daisy with James?
