Curious George 2: Follow That Monkey!

Ted, voiced by Jeff Bennett, shares a small New York City apartment with George, a resourceful creature who speaks in a few voices, as he pushes to balance his career with his personal life. When a newspaper announces that the renowned magician Piccadilly will perform a show featuring an elephant named Kayla, Ted tries to show the news to his roommate, but he’s late for a crucial meeting with Mr. Bloomsberry, the museum’s aging head who is thinking about retirement. Fred Tatasciore brings Mr. Bloomsberry to life, and he explains that he’s retiring and believes Ted is the only viable candidate to lead the museum—provided Ted can deliver a compelling one-week presentation to the Board of Directors about his vision for the institution.

Maggie, played by Nickie Bryar, bluntly tells Ted that his loved ones need more attention than his demanding career, a nudge that sets Ted on a path toward a more balanced life. To satisfy this push and to give George a little adventure, Ted takes George to the magic show. At the performance, Piccadilly makes the elephant Kayla disappear in a flourish, and George, curious and brave, heads backstage and ends up in the theater’s basement, where he discovers a hidden exit. Kayla remains free for the moment, but Piccadilly soon notices her absence and enlists security to search the venue. The security operation is led by Danno Wolfe, portrayed by Jamie Kennedy, with Mrs. Fisher, voiced by Cree Summer, assisting behind the scenes. A TV broadcast catches the moment Kayla is missing, showing her at a California animal park with her siblings Tonga and Layla, a detail that troubles Ted.

Ted and George return to the apartment with Kayla in tow, but their problems don’t end there. Ted attempts to call Piccadilly to explain the mix-up, yet the connection breaks, and Danno’s suspicions of a kidnapping grow. Determined to clear the air and keep Kayla safe, Ted and George chase a lead that takes them onto the California Express—a train advertised in a way that captivates George’s imagination. As the train departs, Ted can’t physically extract Kayla from the boxcar before it pulls away, and Danno’s team grows more convinced that the two men have abducted Kayla. The story broadens as Piccadilly is interviewed by Hark Hanson, and a photo montage surfaces that seems to show Ted and George with Kayla in the act of kidnapping, pushing Ted into a corner.

With publicity spiraling, Ted and George realize they’ve been heading in the wrong direction and decide to redirect their journey toward Kayla’s home and family. The newspapers react with speculation, reporting that New York believes the pair is guilty of kidnapping. The wind shifts again when George persuades Ted to take Kayla back to where she belongs. Just then, Danno arrives in a helicopter, determined to recover the elephant by force. A pig suddenly hurls Danno into a rain barrel, and Kayla’s alarmed presence frightens the helicopter crew into retreat. Seizing the moment, Ted, George, and Kayla escape on a school bus and accelerate toward the animal park, where Tonga and Layla greet Kayla with joy. Danno pursues them, but the trio outmaneuvers him and ends up skydiving back into New York, landing safely and reuniting with Kayla’s family.

Back in the city, Ted presents his report to the Board of Directors. At first flustered, he pivots to a heartfelt, improvised message that places friendship and family above work—proposing ideas like a Father and Son Day to strengthen community ties and support the people who matter most. The Board responds positively, approving Ted’s appointment as the new head of the museum. As the film circles toward its ending, Ted, George, and Maggie visit the park for a celebratory picnic. Piccadilly and Tina, played by Catherine Taber, arrive to reveal that Tonga and Layla have joined Piccadilly’s act, meaning Kayla and her family can be together again.
