Cassidy Merteuil, Kristina Anapau, is a beautiful, manipulative student at an exclusive Santa Barbara college. Jason Argyle, Kerr Smith, and Patrick Bates, Nathan Wetherington, are roommates there. They hatch a devious plan that sets the story in motion: Patrick beds Cassidy and disrupts a potential relationship she had been pursuing with a British prince. This scheme paves the way for Jason to win a bet he had with Cassidy—one that actually belonged to Patrick all along. When Cassidy learns of the deception, she is devastated, and the two men reveal their scheme to her, sparking a collapse of trust that neither of them anticipated.

In the aftermath, Cassidy pushes them to compete against each other, turning the scheme into a cruel contest of lust and power. Jason Argyle is tasked with seducing Sheila, who is in a steady relationship with Michael, Tom Parker. Patrick Bates, for his part, must seduce Alison, Melissa Yvonne Lewis, who is already engaged. Jason succeeds in his manipulative mission, while Patrick is rebuffed by Alison, who refuses to cheat and does not find him sexually appealing.

The rivalry grows more tangled when classmate Brent Patterson, Charlie Weber, shows interest in Alison after Cassidy’s rejection. She gives in to temptation and sleeps with Brent, unaware that Patrick has been taking photographs. Patrick then uses the illicit images to blackmail Alison, forcing her to confront the consequences of the arranged bet and the lies that powered it. He claims he has a history of success, and in a shocking turn, he rapes Alison to fulfill his part of the wager.

Meanwhile, Jason and Cassidy begin to build a real connection, even as Patrick’s actions cast a shadow over their bond. Frustrated and angry at the outcome of the assault on Alison, Patrick turns his attention back to Cassidy and tries to lure her away from Jason. Cassidy, however, sees through the manipulation and reveals that the entire charade was designed to expose the darker sides of everyone involved. She had orchestrated the plan to force Patrick and Jason to confront their own capacities for cruelty, and she even took one of Patrick’s sleeping pills to frame the situation and protect herself—planning to tell the police that he had drugged and raped her.

As the investigation closes in, Patrick is led away by the authorities, bewildered and protesting his innocence, while a warning echoes that another victim may come forward and that he will face punishment for his actions against Alison. In the final moment, Jason and Cassidy are shown together once more, continuing their own twisted game with a new bet—this time anchored by the possibility of romance and revenge, and a reminder of how easily desire can morph into a dangerous game when people dare to push the boundaries.
