Cohen and Tate

Two professional hitmen, Cohen and Tate, are sent to kidnap 9-year-old Travis Knight who is under federal witness protection in Oklahoma. They murder Travis's parents and the agent who protected them, then gain entry with the help of a third agent who later flees. They capture Travis and drive off toward Houston to meet their boss.

During the car ride to Houston, Travis realizes there is growing antagonism between Cohen and Tate. He starts using little lies and suggestions to pit one killer against the other, hoping to steer his own fate. The boy's survival depends on the shifting dynamic inside the car.

On the road, they hear on the radio that Travis's father survived the attack, though he is injured. The information raises the stakes for the men as the boy's fate grows more precarious. Tension in the vehicle escalates as they press toward their destination.

In a moment of distraction, Travis breaks free from the moving car. An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper pulls him over, but Cohen shoots the trooper in the head as he drives, killing him. The attack reinforces the killers' resolve to reach their boss at any cost.

Cohen and Tate recapture Travis and learn that police are on their trail. Tate wants to dispose of the boy, but Cohen resists, preferring to keep him as leverage. They manage to dodge a roadblock by threatening to kill Travis and blowing up patrols.

In a desperate move, Tate knocks out a passing driver and the captors swap cars. The change deepens the rift between Cohen and Tate, while Travis remains a volatile bargaining chip in their power struggle.

Cohen stops at a rural mailbox and silently mails part of his payment and his money clip to his wife, a sign of the humanity still within him. He remains mostly silent, but the gesture reveals the emotional toll of the job. The moment hints at the cost of violence on a man who still has a conscience.

Travis's warnings provoke a confrontation; Tate grows furious, calling Travis a liar and trying to harm him. Cohen shoots Tate, tossing him from the moving car and leaving him wounded but alive as he clings to the outside.

A stop at a gas station leads to tragedy when a curious attendant who sees blood in the trunk is shot through a glass door as he tries to call for help. The attendant is killed and the scene leaves a chilling mark on the escape route.

Cohen goes to check on Tate but is attacked by the enraged survivor who reveals a bulletproof vest. Travis finds Cohen's hearing aid after it’s dropped during the struggle and hesitates to speak, creating a fragile moment of uneasy cooperation.

Cohen reappears and handcuffs Travis to his wrist, dragging the boy through an oil-field landscape while Tate stalks them in the dark. The situation grows more perilous as night deepens and visibility drops.

During the tense escape, Tate suddenly shoots Cohen, who takes a shoulder wound and appears to collapse. Cohen fires back, and then shoots Tate as he lunges toward Travis, sending Tate tumbling beneath an oil pump jack and meeting a grisly end.

Travis and the wounded Cohen reach Houston, where authorities corner them on a highway. Cohen contemplates shooting Travis, but the boy refuses to let him, sparking a climactic pursuit that ends with a roadblock and a brutal crash downtown.

With no options left, Cohen holds Travis and asks his age before shooting himself through the throat, dying instantly. The self-inflicted wound ends the killers' brutal partnership and leaves Travis to face the aftermath of the ordeal as a survivor.
