Coffee & Kareem

The ending of “Coffee & Kareem” sees the chaotic culmination of a criminal conspiracy involving corrupt police officers. Coffee convinces Orlando, a criminal, to betray Watts, the corrupt detective leading the operation. With Orlando’s help, Coffee plans to confront Watts at an old steel mill where she intends to make a major drug deal with French-Canadian criminals. After a tense showdown, Watts kidnaps Vanessa and Kareem, forcing Coffee to negotiate their release. Coffee offers himself in exchange for their safety, threatening her with grenades, but Watts shoots him in the shoulder, causing the grenades to fall. A fierce fight ensues, leading to Coffee managing to burn a pallet of drugs and kill one of Watts’ henchmen. During the chaos, Watts attempts to kill Coffee, but Vanessa intervenes, shooting and killing Watts herself.

In the aftermath, most of Watts’ criminal operation is destroyed, with the warehouse exploding in a fiery finale after a grenade-laden French-Canadian blows himself up. Coffee survives the explosion with burns on his face but is alive. Watts is initially found alive by firefighters, but her attempt to shoot Coffee is thwarted when Vanessa takes her gun and kills her. The film reveals that Watts was the ringleader of a major corruption scheme, orchestrating drug busts and stealing from her fellow officers, including Captain Hill, whom she kills to take more money for herself. Her criminal empire was built on lies, fake drug busts, and betrayal, which came to light through the chaos at the steel mill.

Though the main criminal plot concludes with Watts’ death, the film leaves some open threads, notably with Orlando turning away from crime and pursuing music, and Kareem and Coffee repairing their relationship. One character, Rodney, escapes the shootout with some cocaine and money, leaving the door open for a potential sequel, hinting that Coffee might still have unresolved issues to pursue. Overall, the ending brings justice to Watts while ending the story on a note that could lead to future adventures, depending on where the filmmakers choose to take it.
