Coffee & Kareem

In Detroit, Officer James Coffee is caught in a whirlwind of personal and professional chaos when he visits his girlfriend Vanessa Manning during the day. As their relationship grows intimate, Coffee’s mind wanders, and he feels he spots Vanessa’s son Kareem in the house. Vanessa insists that Kareem is at school, warning Coffee that if he cannot accept her son as part of her life, their relationship is doomed. Meanwhile, at school, Kareem vents his frustrations to his friend Dominic, feeling betrayed that his mother is dating a white cop, which he believes could jeopardize his ambitions in the rap industry. His anger leads him to plot revenge against Coffee by enlisting local gangsters to teach him a lesson.

As the plot unfolds, Detective Linda Watts leads a successful raid on a rapper named Orlando Johnson, resulting in a massive drug bust. However, chaos reigns when Johnson escapes and makes off with Coffee’s patrol car, leading to an embarrassing viral moment that Coffee cannot shake off. Frustrated by the constant belittling from his superior, Captain Hill, and receiving a demotion to traffic duty, Coffee feels the weight of his failures at the police station.

After being asked by Vanessa to pick Kareem up from school, Coffee hesitantly agrees. When he arrives, he finds Kareem acting out, directing him to a boxing gym where Johnson is hiding. Here, they stumble into a perilous situation; Johnson and his crew have a dirty cop captive, and when the ruthless gang members kill the cop in cold blood, the pair narrowly escapes in a trunk, only to realize they cannot trust anyone in this dangerous web.

From the confines of the trunk, Coffee manages to contact Detective Watts about the situation, but Kareem, realizing the gravity of their predicament, urges Coffee to hang up. They commandeer a car, but as they plot their next move, further complications arise. After an emotional confrontation at the motel where they plan to lay low, they find themselves in a race against time when Vanessa receives an amber alert about Kareem.
