Christy

Roy, a 12th-grade student, lives in Poovar with his aunt Lissie for his studies, but frequently skips classes. His mother threatens to bring him home if his grades don’t improve, so his aunt hires a tutor named Christy. Roy visits the tutor’s house for sessions and finds her visibly distressed, telling his aunt that something seems off with her, though he agrees to continue because his school allows him an important exam.

Christy is recently divorced and carries the weight of a tense relationship with her father, Joseph, who often borrows large sums of money from her. As Roy spends more time with her, his feelings deepen into love, and their friendship grows alongside his academic success. He passes the exam and becomes a college student, then decides to confess his love for Christy.

He learns that Christy hopes to become a school teacher in the Maldives and that she needs two lakhs to make the move, a demand that triggers anger in Joseph. In response, he proposes to Christy, leaving her startled and speechless as she contemplates the future.

On Christy’s first day of work, Roy arrives at the airport with his friend, hoping to catch a glimpse of her boarding the flight, but ends up waiting as she leaves. He stays behind on the bus and receives a late call from Christy, but he cannot afford the fare to call back. On Roy’s birthday, Christy gives him a camera, a gift that accompanies their evolving dynamic. He even attempts a kiss, but she rejects him, setting boundaries.

Over time, their relationship rekindles and Roy’s love deepens. Christy reveals that she has opened a new bank account to shield her money from her father’s reach and asks Roy to check the account and confirm that deposits are arriving safely. A later dispute arises when Roy is upset that Christy is late to meet him, and their quarrel tests how far they’ve come.

In the end, Roy returns to Poovar and uses the camera Christy gave him to photograph fish struggling to return to the sea, a quiet, symbolic close to their story.
