Charlotte's Web

The story begins with the Arable family, who are raising a new litter of piglets on their farm. One piglet, the runt of the litter, is born and faces immediate danger of being slaughtered.

Fern, John Arable's daughter, intervenes at the crucial moment to save the runt from being killed. She implores her father to give her the piglet, which he reluctantly does, and she names him Wilbur.

Fern treats Wilbur as her beloved pet, and they develop a close bond. Their daily adventures together form the backdrop of Fern's idyllic childhood.

As Wilbur grows larger, John Arable decides to sell him to Fern’s uncle, Homer Zuckerman. This move deeply saddens Fern, who is heartbroken to part with her furry friend.

Wilbur arrives at Zuckerman's farm, where he feels lonely and yearns for Fern. He encounters a mix of reactions from the other barn animals, leading to feelings of insecurity.

Wilbur learns from the barn's head ram that he is being raised for slaughter. This revelation plunges him into despair, as he realizes his life is in jeopardy.

In his time of sorrow, Wilbur is comforted by Charlotte, a wise barn spider. She promises to devise a plan to save him from his fate, becoming a motherly figure in his life.

As summer passes, Charlotte begins her plan to save Wilbur by spinning words into her web. The first message, 'Some Pig,' draws attention to Wilbur, turning him into a local attraction.

The fame surrounding Wilbur grows as Charlotte weaves more phrases into her web, including 'Terrific' and 'Radiant.' Zuckerman is thrilled, though he still plans to slaughter Wilbur.

Charlotte, Wilbur, and Templeton travel to the county fair, where Wilbur is entered as a contestant. Though Fern has matured and spends more time with her friend Henry, she still cherishes Wilbur.

At the fair, Charlotte spins the word 'Humble' into her web, further enhancing Wilbur's reputation. Although he doesn't win first prize, he receives a special medal that ensures he won't be killed.

As the award ceremony concludes, Charlotte accepts her impending death, knowing she has saved Wilbur. She requests that her egg sac be taken back to the barn after her passing.

Charlotte dies at the fairgrounds, alone but content with her deeds. Wilbur mourns the loss of his dear friend, reflecting on the bond they shared throughout their time together.

Wilbur waits through the winter months, feeling the void left by Charlotte. During this time, her children hatch, but most fly away, leaving Wilbur feeling lonely.

A few of Charlotte's children choose to stay with Wilbur, who continues to cherish her memory. He finds companionship in her descendants, but will always hold a special place in his heart for Charlotte.
