Based on the 1943 classic book by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, this fable follows The Pilot, an aviator who is forced to make an emergency landing in the Sahara Desert. There he is befriended by a young boy from Earth, The Little Prince, who has descended to Earth from Asteroid B-612.
In the days that follow, the Pilot hears about the Prince’s past and his journeys through the Solar System. As the Little Prince travels through space, he visits several planetoids and encounters various grown-ups with skewed or curious views on life. It is on Earth that he learns the most important life lessons, largely through his bond with The Fox and The Snake.
Before the Little Prince dies, he shares those lessons with the Pilot. The Pilot tries to keep the Little Prince alive, but the boy disappears in the morning, and the Pilot searches the desert, only to realize that the Little Prince may not have existed. As the plane lifts off again, he carries the memory of the boy and, in the starry night, hears the Little Prince’s laughter, convinced that the Prince has returned to space.

The Little Prince dies at dawn in the desert after being bitten by the Snake. However, his departure is framed as a return home to Asteroid B-612 rather than a tragic death. The Pilot tries to keep him alive but the Prince disappears in the morning. The Snake's earlier cryptic warning about having the power to return him to the stars foreshadows this moment. The Prince leaves the Pilot with the wisdom he gained from the Fox about love and responsibility.
The Snake tells the Prince earlier that he has the power to return the Prince to the stars if he ever misses his home planet.
The Fox teaches the Prince about taming and the idea that what is essential is invisible to the eye. The Fox explains that by taming someone, you create a bond that gives meaning to life. This lesson about love and responsibility becomes one of the most important lessons the Prince shares with the Pilot. The Prince realizes he had tamed his rose on Asteroid B-612 and is responsible for it, which is why he must return.
The Fox explicitly states that essential things are invisible, preparing the Prince for the metaphysical nature of his eventual departure.
After the Prince disappears at dawn, the Pilot searches the desert desperately but cannot find him. He begins to realize that the Prince may not have existed as a literal person. This creates a powerful ambiguity in the story, was the Prince a real child from another planet, a figment of the Pilot's imagination, or a spiritual presence? The Pilot is left with this paradox between memory and reality, which defines his emotional journey.
The Prince's mysterious arrival from another world and his magical ability to travel through space hint at his potentially metaphysical nature.
The Little Prince left his asteroid after becoming troubled by his rose, which he felt was not reciprocating his care. He traveled through the Solar System visiting six planetoids to learn about adult life and find answers to his questions. Each planet represented a different adult flaw: the King's obsession with power, the Conceited Man's vanity, the Drunkard's self-destruction, the Businessman's greed, the Lamplighter's mindless devotion, and the Geographer's disconnected knowledge. These encounters taught him what truly matters.
The Prince mentions early on that he left his asteroid because he was troubled by problems with his rose, establishing his initial motivation for traveling.
After the plane lifts off and the Pilot flies away from the desert at night, he hears the Little Prince's laughter in the starry sky. The Pilot interprets this as proof that the Prince has returned to space, to Asteroid B-612. This moment is both a literal possibility (the Prince exists somewhere) and a metaphorical one (the Pilot carries the Prince's memory and lessons with him). It creates a bittersweet ending that blends hope with loss.
The Prince promises the Pilot that if he looks at the stars, he will hear the Prince laughing, which the Pilot recalls at this moment.
The Little Prince left Asteroid B-612 because he was emotionally troubled by his relationship with his rose. He felt the rose was not reciprocating his love and care, and he wanted to travel to understand adult life better. His journey was partly an escape from this heartbreak and partly a quest for understanding. The Fox later helps him realize that his rose is unique and valuable precisely because he tamed it and gave it his time.
The Prince mentions his rose early in his stories, showing his deep attachment despite his confusion about the rose's feelings.
Asteroid B-612 is the Little Prince's home, a tiny planet where he lives with his beloved rose. It is small enough that the Prince can watch the sunset multiple times by simply moving his chair. This small size represents simplicity and the intimacy of the Prince's world. The asteroid is significant because it represents the Prince's roots, his responsibilities to his rose, and ultimately where he chooses to return. The asteroid's modesty contrasts with the grandeur of the planets the Prince visits.
The Prince's detailed memories of his asteroid and rose establish early on how much he values his home.
The Snake represents death and the cycle of life in the story. When the Prince meets him on Earth, the Snake cryptically tells him he has the power to return the Prince to the stars if he ever longs for his home. The Snake's bite causes the Prince's physical departure from Earth, which the Prince accepts as a natural part of existence. Rather than being menacing, the Snake serves as a guide between life and whatever lies beyond, symbolizing the transition the Prince must make.
The Snake explicitly states he can send the Prince back to the stars, foreshadowing the Prince's eventual departure.
The Prince encounters adults on various planets who are trapped in meaningless behaviors: the King commands nothing, the Conceited Man has no admirers, the Drunkard drinks to forget shame, the Businessman counts stars he'll never use, the Lamplighter follows pointless orders, and the Geographer never explores. These adults represent how imagination and essential meaning fade as people grow older. The Prince, with his childlike perspective, sees through their hollow pursuits to the emptiness beneath.
The Prince's innocent questions and reactions to each adult highlight how obvious the adults' flaws are to a child.
The Pilot is stranded alone in the desert, facing fear and loneliness, when the Prince appears. As the Prince shares his stories, the Pilot's memories of his own childhood wonder are awakened. The Prince's childlike perspective helps the Pilot see what matters, love, responsibility, and seeing with the heart. Their friendship is meaningful because both are somewhat isolated: the Pilot physically stranded, and the Prince emotionally distant from adults who don't understand him. The Pilot becomes the only adult capable of truly hearing the Prince.
The Pilot admits he had forgotten the importance of essential things until the Prince reminded him.
