Juliette is a Canadian magazine editor who embarks on a vacation journey to Cairo with her husband Mark, a UN official dedicated to working in refugee camps in the Gaza Strip. With their children now grown, Juliette looks forward to reuniting with Mark and spending quality time together. However, due to unexpected delays, Mark requests his friend, a charming Egyptian named Tareq, to keep an eye on Juliette during his absence. As Mark grapples with the demands of his work in Gaza, Juliette finds herself making new friendships with the locals and other expatriates, including a vibrant group composed of North American and European residents such as Kathryn.

During her lengthy wait for Mark, Juliette becomes more acquainted with the beauty and culture of Cairo, affectionately referring to this enchanting time as her Cairo Time. Tareq, though not always present, emerges as a significant companion, and as they share experiences together, their bond deepens. Although their relationship remains platonic, it is evident that they are growing closer. A poignant moment arises when they travel to Alexandria for the wedding of Hanan, the daughter of Yasmeen, Tareq’s university acquaintance. There, Juliette openly expresses her feelings, admitting that she will cherish the time spent with Tareq once she returns to Canada.

The two also visit the majestic Great Pyramids, a sight Mark has suggested must be just for the two of them, as revealed in his sporadic phone calls to Juliette at her hotel. The visit holds greater significance, hinting at the evolution of their relationship. However, upon their return to the hotel, they are met with the arrival of Mark. Filled with joy at seeing Juliette, Mark is oblivious to the bittersweet undertone shared between her and Tareq, who must conceal their feelings as their Cairo Time comes to a close.
