Burning Bright

John spends time reinforcing his house by boarding up the windows and doors to prepare for an approaching hurricane. He also plans to set up a safari park, buying a tiger to include in his plans. Kelly, John's stepdaughter, and her brother Tom are involved in their personal struggles while this storm approaches.

Kelly takes her autistic brother Tom to a special hospital for his care while she is at college. However, her payment is rejected, and she learns that John has withdrawn all the money and closed their bank account. This leaves Kelly worried about Tom's well-being and her own plans.

John brings the purchased tiger into his home as part of his safari park plans. He instructs his workers to prepare the house for the hurricane, even as tensions rise within the household. The tiger's presence begins to threaten everyone's safety.

Kelly confronts John about the missing family funds, angrily criticizing him for spending the money on the tiger instead of supporting Tom’s care. She reveals that her mother wanted the money to go to Kelly and Tom, but John has taken it for himself after her death.

Kelly decides to defer her college semester due to family issues. She calls her college to delay her start, but is warned that if she doesn't begin this semester, her scholarship may be taken away. She is overwhelmed by her personal struggles and uncertainties.

While Kelly sleeps, someone releases the tiger into the house and the front door is left open. Kelly wakes to find the tiger roaming freely inside, and realizes that all the house's exits are boarded up to trap her inside during the hurricane.

Kelly finds that Tom is absent from his bed, and she is unable to contact help due to the downed phone lines caused by the hurricane. She begins her desperate attempt to find Tom and escape the danger with the tiger inside the house.

Kelly encounters the tiger several times, sustaining injuries and hiding in places like John's study. She finds that John has taken out life insurance policies on her and Tom, planning to profit from their deaths. She prepares to defend herself using a loaded gun as the tiger threatens her.

Kelly shoots at the tiger but misses with an empty chamber and flees to the laundry room. She breaks a window to escape outside, but quickly remembers Tom is still trapped inside with the tiger. She rushes back inside to rescue him.

Kelly finds Tom and tells him she won't abandon him. To evade the tiger, she instructs Tom to climb into a large freezer while she herself climbs in afterward. Inside, they find safety and comfort, with Kelly humming a lullaby as Tom falls asleep.

The next morning, Kelly wakes to the sound of drilling, as John is removing the boards from the house. John, wielding a rifle, prepares to kill the tiger and reveals that he murdered Kelly's mother, making it look like suicide. He admits to orchestrating the tiger attack and faking his wife's death.

During the heated confrontation, the tiger suddenly leaps at John and begins attacking him. It proceeds to eat him alive, which allows Kelly and Tom to escape the house amidst the chaos and debris from the hurricane. They begin to walk away together to start anew.
