Archie Moses, played by Adam Sandler, is a petty criminal residing in Los Angeles, employed by the local drug lord Frank Colton, portrayed by James Caan. Unbeknownst to him, his closest companion, Rock Keats, known as Jack Carter in his undercover role as an LAPD officer, is gathering evidence to bring down Colton’s operation.

One fateful night, Jack takes Archie out, gets him intoxicated, and cleverly extracts valuable information that leads him to a key location tied to Colton’s illegal activities. However, during a police raid on Colton’s warehouse, Archie discovers Jack’s true identity as a cop. In the chaotic escape attempt, a malfunctioning crane strikes Moses, causing him to accidentally shoot Jack in the head. Defying the odds, Jack survives and begins recovering with the help of his dedicated physical therapist, Dr. Traci Flynn, played by Kristen Wilson.

After fleeing the state, Archie is eventually captured and brought into custody, agreeing to testify against Colton, albeit his trial is scheduled far away. Meanwhile, Jack’s superior, Jensen, played by James Farentino, orders him to personally escort Moses to court after his recovery. Despite the tension rooted in their tumultuous past, Jack grapples with his lingering bitterness towards Archie, and the seemingly straightforward transfer spirals into a complex scenario when Colton learns of Moses’s intent to testify through corrupt federal agents and officers.

As the story unfolds, Jack and Archie begin to rebuild their fractured friendship while facing escalating dangers from Colton. The stakes rise dramatically when it becomes apparent that Colton has taken Dr. Flynn hostage, leveraging her safety to manipulate Jack into betraying Moses. In a bold move, Jack and Archie stage a ruse that leads to a fierce confrontation with Colton and his henchmen.

The twist deepens as they learn that Dr. Flynn had been providing information to Colton, working against them. In a climactic confrontation, after Archie sustains a shoulder wound from Colton, Jack devises a diversion, allowing Archie to ultimately defeat Colton, reclaiming the incriminating evidence against him. With their troubles behind them, Moses decides to move to Mexico to start anew as a bullfighter, with Jack and Moses’s mother joining him on this new adventure.
