Widower Lee Sang-hyeon leads a quiet life with his 15-year-old daughter Su-jin, a routine that feels almost ordinary until tragedy shatters it. Su-jin is abducted and raped, and her body is later found at a derelict public bathhouse. Grief leaves Sang-hyeon hollow, his anger and despair mounting as the investigation crawls forward at a frustrating pace. Faced with a system that seems slow to respond, he decides to take matters into his own hands, hoping to bring some measure of truth and closure to a family ripped apart.

An anonymous text arrives, offering information about the culprit and even pointing to an address where supposedly electronic evidence of the crime can be found. When Sang-hyeon arrives, he confronts a man named Kim Cheol-yong, who is laughing while watching a video of Su-jin’s rape and murder. The moment erupts in a brutal, impulsive act as Sang-hyeon kills Cheol-yong in a fit of rage, an action that changes everything.

From Cheol-yong’s murder, Sang-hyeon learns that there was an accomplice, and a new, singular fixation takes hold: find the second rapist and murderer. His quest draws him deeper into a dangerous pursuit, blurring the lines between vigilante justice and formal investigation, as he presses on to uncover the truth behind Su-jin’s death.

Meanwhile, Jang Eok-gwan, the detective leading the official investigation into Su-jin’s killing, pieces together the clues and realizes that Sang-hyeon himself may be the killer. With this unsettling discovery, the detective sets out to track Sang-hyeon, turning a personal tragedy into a gripping chase that questions how far one man will go to seek justice.

Q1

Why does Sang-hyeon decide to find the killer himself instead of waiting for the police?

Sang-hyeon is driven to act because the official investigation moves at a painfully slow pace while his daughter's killer remains free. The combination of his grief, anger, and helplessness leaves him feeling that waiting for justice is unbearable. The text suggests he cannot simply endure the pain passively and feels compelled to take direct action.

Foreshadowing: Early scenes show Sang-hyeon's fragile attempts to maintain normalcy after losing his wife, establishing his desperation to protect what remains.

Q3

What triggers Sang-hyeon to kill Kim Cheol-yong?

When Sang-hyeon arrives at the address, he finds Cheol-yong laughing while watching a video of Su-jin's rape and murder. The sight of his daughter's suffering being enjoyed by her killer causes Sang-hyeon to erupt in a brutal, impulsive act of rage, resulting in Cheol-yong's death.

Foreshadowing: The earlier discovery of Su-jin's body at the bathhouse establishes the horror of the crime, making Cheol-yong's casual enjoyment of the video deeply traumatic.

Q4

How does detective Jang Eok-gwan realize Sang-hyeon is the killer?

While processing the crime scene where Sang-hyeon killed Kim Cheol-yong, detective Jang Eok-gwan pieces together the clues and realizes that Sang-hyeon himself committed the murder. This discovery shifts the investigation from pursuing Su-jin's killer to pursuing the father who avenged her.

Why does detective Jang Eok-gwan decide to pursue Sang-hyeon rather than assist his vendetta?

As a detective, Eok-gwan is bound by his duty to uphold the law rather than allow extrajudicial vengeance. Even though Sang-hyeon's motivations are understandable, the detective cannot condone or assist in murder. Once he identifies Sang-hyeon as Cheol-yong's killer, pursuing him becomes his official responsibility.

Q7

Why is the anonymous text message that guides Sang-hyeon to Cheol-yong suspicious?

Q8

What drives Sang-hyeon to continue pursuing the second attacker despite increasing danger?
