Buddy Amaral, portrayed by Ben Affleck, is a high-flying advertising executive whose life takes a dramatic turn when he encounters a charming family man named Greg, played by Goldwyn, while waiting for his flight. Initially, a light-hearted conversation leads Buddy to become captivated by the beautiful Mimi Pager, played by Henstridge. In an impulsive moment driven by infatuation, Buddy concocts a plan to swap his ticket with Greg, granting Greg an early return to his family while Buddy indulges in his newfound affection.
However, this seemingly generous act spirals into a devastating nightmare. When the flight that Greg was reluctantly bumped onto tragically crashes, claiming his life, Buddy is left drowning in an ocean of guilt.
