In the charming town of Indiana, Alice’s life as a waitress takes an unexpected detour during a dinner date with her boyfriend, Scott, an Indiana State Trooper. Just as Scott plans to propose, a careless repairman mistakenly shoots a nail into Alice’s head, resulting in a disastrous turn of events. Due to a lack of health insurance, the medical team declines to operate, setting off a tumultuous chain reaction that dramatically alters Alice’s existence.

Alice begins to experience erratic emotional shifts; her life now characterized by unrestrained sexual desires, bursts of anger, and even spontaneous outbursts in Portuguese. Disheartened by these changes, Scott decides against the proposal and instead finds comfort with one of Alice’s colleagues. Meanwhile, financial efforts by her parents yield a meager $600, leading to Aunt Rita, a local veterinarian, attempting a well-intentioned but unsuccessful surgery.

As Alice grapples with her bewildering new reality, she encounters the charming Reverend Norm, who is also wrestling with his challenges, including a drug-induced, constant state of arousal that underscores his own vulnerability. His friend Keyshawn struggles with a different dilemma—an urgent medical issue he is reluctant to address.

Among the chaos, Alice finds hope in the words of junior Congressman Howard Birdwell. He reassures constituents of his dedication to serving Indiana and encourages them to voice their concerns. Inspired, Alice decides to head to Washington D.C. with Reverend Norm and Keyshawn.

Upon their arrival at Howard’s office, the trio faces an unexpected challenge: House Whip Pam Hendrickson is fiercely pursuing power and attempts to manipulate Howard into supporting her agenda, including her plans for a military Moon-base. As Keyshawn embarks on a romantic escapade with Congress security guard Rakeesha, Reverend Norm deals with his own setbacks at a nearby motel.

Meanwhile, Alice waits outside, unaware her uninhibited behavior is about to create a serendipitous encounter with Howard. Their clandestine meeting leads to a deal: Howard will assist Alice with her advocacy for healthcare in exchange for her backing of his Moon-base proposal.

As tensions mount, Pam Hendrickson utilizes the illusion of a Shakira appearance by the Squaw Girls to galvanize her campaign. The excitement around the Moon-base escalates, prompting Alice and the Squaw Girls to rally behind it during a press conference. However, House Speaker Buck McCoy becomes overzealous about the Moon-base and, in a humorous twist, suffers a fatal accident due to Hendrickson’s covert sabotage during a cookie tribute.

At McCoy’s funeral, Alice seizes the moment to assert her belief that healthcare should take precedence over the Moon-base initiative. The Squaw Girls, feeling betrayed from their Shakira dreams, quickly redirect their efforts to promote “Alice’s Law,” a healthcare bill aimed at serving the needs of their community.

Determined to undermine Alice, Hendrickson sets in motion a plot that involves sending Scott back to Indiana to manipulate Alice’s feelings and coax her into returning home. Yet, Alice uncovers this deception and partners with Scott to confront Howard, who is rediscovering himself at a self-help retreat. Through introspection and Scott’s encouragement, Howard realizes the consequences of his past actions and returns, only to face the fallout from his manipulative behavior.

As the Congressional session unfolds, Hendrickson exposes Howard’s unscrupulous tactics to the assembly. Ultimately, Howard retracts his support for the healthcare bill, conceding defeat to Alice and her cause. Even as Alice prepares to leave, it becomes evident that Howard has embedded a healthcare provision within the Moon-base legislation—this new law will cover the medical needs of Alice and her friends. The bill surprisingly passes, with Hendrickson acknowledging that many lawmakers neglect to read the contents of proposed legislation. Howard is compelled to resign as a result of these shenanigans.

In the aftermath of these events, Reverend Norm officiates the union between Rakeesha and Keyshawn. As Alice contemplates a proposal for Howard, an errant champagne cork from Keyshawn leaves her with an injured eye—an ironic reminder that personal joy remains elusive amidst their hard-fought victories.
