Blindness

On a busy morning during rush hour, Yusuke Iseya, a young Japanese professional, unexpectedly loses his sight while navigating through chaotic traffic. This sudden affliction confounds the surrounding commuters, halting the busy city and prompting a good Samaritan to help him reach home.

Don McKellar, a stranger and car owner, assists Yusuke in getting home but harbors ulterior motives. After dropping Yusuke off, he steals the man's car keys and abandons him, leaving the Japanese man unaware of the betrayal.

Upon her return, Yusuke's wife rushes him to see an ophthalmologist, played by Mark Ruffalo, who conducts tests to understand the sudden blindness. Despite the thorough examination, there is no medical explanation for Yusuke's condition, raising the tension as others in the waiting room are also affected.

The car thief, who stole Yusuke's car, also succumbs to the peculiar blindness and moves aimlessly without comprehension. The unusual phenomenon begins to escalate, impacting various people in the city, including the doctor, leading to widespread panic.

As the blindness epidemic spreads, the government takes drastic measures by quarantining the blind at a dilapidated asylum. The characters, including the doctor, his wife, and several others, arrive at the asylum, where they must navigate their new, grim reality.

Upon entering the asylum, conditions deteriorate rapidly, with overcrowding and a complete absence of care. The inmates face harsh reality, battling hunger, filth, and hostility, while the threat of violence and execution by soldiers looms ever closer.

An armed ex-barman rises to power within the asylum, asserting control over the inmates by bartering food for valuables. The atmosphere becomes increasingly oppressive, leading to the heartbreaking decision of women being sacrificed to survive.

In an act of desperation brought on by the King of Ward 3's threats, the doctor’s wife retaliates against him, murdering him with scissors. This event sparks chaos and violence among the inmates, leading to a revolt that engulfs the asylum in flames.

As the asylum burns, the remaining survivors discover they have been abandoned by the military. They step out into a devastated city, now filled with chaos and despair, with nearly everyone rendered blind and society crumbling around them.

Determined to seek hope, the doctor's wife leads the group through the ruins of the city. They encounter challenges, scavenging for food and encountering hostile survivors, but their unity helps them navigate the dangers.

Upon their return, the doctor and his wife work to turn their once Upscale apartment into a refuge for their newfound family. Their bond deepens as they address past grievances and find solace in their shared survival.

In an unexpected twist, the Japanese man regains his sight, igniting a moment of hope among the survivors. Their brief celebration signifies a potential turning point, though lingering uncertainty remains as they face an uncertain future.

As joy permeates the air after the shocking turn of events, the doctor’s wife gazes out at the bleak landscape. Struggling with her own fears of going blind, she becomes the embodiment of the hope and despair that still linger in their world.
