Nagaraj and Sampath are garment salesmen and roommates living in Nagercoil. Sampath is depicted as a sincere man who believes in true love, while Nagaraj is portrayed as a womaniser with a more manipulative nature. Their contrasting personalities set the foundation for future conflicts.

Sampath's lover Raji dies in an accident while fleeing from a rogue bull. Her death profoundly affects Sampath, leading him into a period of depression. His grief causes him to attempt suicide, but Nagaraj intervenes to stop him.

Following Raji's death and his emotional turmoil, Sampath decides to abandon his garment business. He chooses to work as Nagaraj's assistant, seeking stability and companionship amid his grief. This marks a turning point in his character's journey.

While traveling to Madras, Nagaraj and Sampath meet Muthu, a temple trust clerk carrying a suitcase full of cash. Their journey takes a dark turn when Muthu suffers a fatal heart attack and dies en route, prompting Nagaraj to steal his suitcase of black money without Sampath's knowledge.

Muthu's sister Bhuvana visits Nagaraj and Sampath in Nagercoil to inquire about the missing cash. Nagaraj denies knowledge of the incident and deceives her, while secretly harboring suspicions. During her visit, Nagaraj manipulates her, leading to an intimate encounter.

Nagaraj invests some of the stolen black money to open his own garment store, aiming to legitimize his wealth. He also plans to marry Manohari, the daughter of a wealthy businessman, to further establish his social standing.

Bhuvana, pregnant by Nagaraj, demands that he marry her, but he refuses. To protect her and his own interests, Sampath marries Bhuvana, though their relationship remains platonic. Meanwhile, Nagaraj marries Manohari, and his business prospers.

Sampath desires a physical relationship with Bhuvana, but she sees him as a god-like figure and rejects his advances. He lovingly raises her son as his own, displaying his compassion and loyalty amidst complex emotional dynamics.

Nagaraj, now impotent due to his excesses, desires a child from Bhuvana. He demands that her son be given to him for adoption, but Bhuvana refuses. When the child falls ill, Nagaraj makes a manipulative bargain for medication and the child's future.

Thanks to Sampath's timely intervention, the child's life is saved with proper medical care. Unfortunately, Sampath's health deteriorates due to years of smoking and drinking, leading to his death from a cardiac arrest. Bhuvana chooses to remain as his widow, honoring his memory.
