Bhuvana Oru Kelvikkuri

Nagaraj and Sampath are close friends and roommates living in Nagercoil, working as garment salesmen. Their personalities are quite different: Sampath is a straightforward, honest man who firmly believes in true love and integrity, while Nagaraj is more of a womanizer, often driven by greed and lust. The story takes a tragic turn when Sampath’s beloved, Raji, is tragically killed while escaping from a rogue bull, a moment that deeply depresses him. Overcome with grief, Sampath contemplates ending his life, but Nagaraj intervenes, preventing him from going through with it. Following this severe emotional blow, Sampath decides to abandon his job in garment sales and instead stays on as Nagaraj’s assistant, seeking a different purpose in life.

Their journey takes an unexpected twist when, on a train heading to Madras, they meet Muthu, a clerk working for a temple trust. Muthu is carrying a suitcase filled with cash, but tragically, he dies suddenly from a heart attack during their journey. Nagaraj, sensing an opportunity, steals the suitcase despite Sampath’s protests. The money turns out to be black money, and soon afterward, Bhuvana, Muthu’s sister, arrives in Nagercoil searching for her missing cash. Nagaraj quickly denies any knowledge of it, but Bhuvana remains suspicious, sensing that something is amiss. To cover his tracks and manipulate her, Nagaraj pretends to fall in love with her. She, in turn, is drawn to him, but their relationship becomes tinged with lust, leading to intimate relations.

Using some of the illicit money, Nagaraj opens his own garment store, but he needs to make the rest of the money legitimate. To do this, he plans to marry Manohari, the daughter of a wealthy businessman. Meanwhile, Bhuvana, who is pregnant by Nagaraj, refuses to terminate her pregnancy. She desires Nagaraj to marry her, but he dismisses her demands. In an act of loyalty and friendship, Sampath marries Bhuvana, although their relationship is strictly platonic; he raises her child as his own. Nagaraj, meanwhile, marries Manohari, and his business starts to flourish.

Sampath harbors feelings for Bhuvana but respects her wishes, telling her that he is like a god to her and that she does not see him in a romantic light. Despite their differences, Sampath remains committed to Bhuvana and her son. Nagaraj and Manohari desperately want to have a child, but Nagaraj’s excessive libido has rendered him impotent, complicating their aspirations. Nagaraj demands that Bhuvana give him her child for adoption, but she strongly refuses.

The situation becomes more tense when the child falls seriously ill and needs an injection. Nagaraj makes a bargain: he will supply the medicine from his pharmacy if the child is adopted by him afterward. However, Sampath arrives just in time to deliver the injection himself, saving the child’s life. Tragically, not long after, Sampath succumbs to a cardiac arrest, the result of years of smoking and drinking. Bhuvana chooses to live as his widow, honoring his memory and their shared bond.

This story intricately weaves themes of friendship, betrayal, greed, and love, illustrating the complexities of human relationships and the tragic consequences of moral compromise.
