In the polished corridors of Washington, D.C., a modest townhouse hides an unexpected world. Chance has spent his entire life tending a quiet garden, his only window to the outside a flickering television. He moves through his days with a gentle, almost ritualistic rhythm, his knowledge coming in snippets of broadcast news, classic films, and endless commercials. The house’s lone other resident, his kindly African‑American maid Louise, shares the quiet routine, offering warmth and a rare connection to a life beyond the garden walls.

When the wealthy owner of the townhouse passes away, the legalities force Chance onto the streets for the first time. A chance encounter with the glamorous Eve Rand, the much‑younger wife of an influential magnate, propels him into a realm far removed from his familiar hedges. Mistaking his earnest “garden‑man” explanation for a name, she ushers him into a palatial estate where the scent of fresh pine mingles with polished marble, and the hum of political power replaces the rustle of leaves.

There, the reclusive Dr. Allenby, charged with the care of the ailing Ben Rand, becomes an unexpected guide, inviting Chance to stay and observe the strange rituals of the elite. The estate’s opulent gatherings, quiet diplomatic conversations, and the ever‑present television screens create a surreal tapestry where a simple gardener’s perspective collides with the intricate choreography of national affairs. The atmosphere is at once whimsical and oddly reverent, as the ordinary and extraordinary coexist, each reflecting the other’s strange logic.

The film rides on the tension between Chance’s unassuming nature and the extravagant world that now watches him. Its tone blends dead‑pan humor with a quiet melancholy, inviting the audience to wonder how a life built on soil and screen can echo through corridors of power. As the story unfolds, the viewer is left with a lingering curiosity: what will happen when a man who knows only the seasons of his garden is asked to navigate the shifting seasons of a nation?
