Attraction (2017) – Full Plot Summary & Ending Explained

Read the complete plot breakdown of Attraction (2017), including all key story events, major twists, and the ending explained in detail. Discover what really happened—and what it all means.

Colonel Valentin Lebedev [Oleg Menshikov] leads Moscow’s high-stakes response to a sudden, meteor-driven disaster when a mysterious alien craft crashes into the city, triggering fear, confusion, and a tight military lockdown. The craft belongs to Hekon [Rinal Mukhametov], a visitor from a technologically advanced humanoid race who comes incognito to study Earth, with his ship Sol damaged and his mission clouded in secrecy. The air force’s mistaken strike on the ship sets off a chain of events that leaves hundreds of people affected and a city under curfew, while the government tries to keep the incident from escalating into a geopolitical nightmare.

Yulya Lebedeva [Irina Starshenbaum], the Colonel’s daughter, finds herself drawn to the enigmatic visitor, and a forbidden romance blossoms between her and Hekon [Rinal Mukhametov], even as she wrestles with fear, loyalty, and the pull of a love that transcends species. She is joined by her past with Artyom [Alexander Petrov], her ex-boyfriend who becomes the story’s volatile antagonist, convinced that the alien represents a threat to Earth and a rallying point for his own sense of justice and revenge. Artyom’s circle includes Ruslan [Nikita Kukushkin], a friend whose fate becomes a flashpoint for the mounting tension, and Piton [Evgeny Sangadzhiev], a steadfast ally whose skepticism adds another dimension to the group’s dynamics.

The crash site becomes a clandestine ground where curiosity and danger collide. Yulya and her crew manage to overpower Hekon, and they recover his armor before any patrol can seize it. They stash the alien’s gear in a hidden garage, hoping to study it without drawing attention. As the pieces of the mystery come together, the group’s tinkering with alien tech reveals a wristband that forms on Yulya’s arm and can manipulate water, a discovery that reframes everything they thought they knew about life, power, and survival. The alien explains that he is searching for Shilk, a device that would enable him to traverse space without harming his body, a tool that seems to glow with water’s life-giving energy. Shilk, like the ship, appears to be drawn toward water, a detail that adds a poetic layer to the pursuit.

When authorities mistake Hekon for a drug addict and detain him, the urgency to protect him intensifies. Artyom, watching events unfold, capitalizes on the moment to galvanize supporters, shaping a violent crowd that challenges the police and the military barricades. The clash grows into a larger riot, and the narrative follows the escalating stakes as Artyom and his allies push forward, while Lebedev’s forces struggle to contain the situation and keep innocent bystanders safe. Google—the nerdy classmate who helps the alien—joins the struggle, providing technical insight that gradually unlocks the next steps in Hekon’s mission. Evgeniy Mikheev

As tension peaks, Yulya’s revelation of her pregnancy with Hekon shifts loyalties and intensifies the stakes for everyone involved. Hekon, seeking to protect his mission and the life he has started to imagine with Yulya, disguises himself and seizes the opportunity to retrieve Shilk from its capsule with the help of the group, even as Artyom’s militants press closer to the ship. The situation erupts into a dramatic confrontation that features armored suits, coordinated crowd control, and a desperate bid to return Hekon to his vessel before Earth’s defenses close in. The armor and Shilk become central to the mission’s turning point, as water—both a weapon and a healing force—sways the tide of events.

A tense stalemate culminates in a decisive clash near the ship. Hekon defends his own, and the confrontation leaves Artyom gravely unsettled as he fires upon Hekon and Yulya. Colonel Lebedev witnesses the chaos and follows a procession of walking suits that carry Yulya and the alien back toward the ship for healing and safety. The spaceship’s computer, which monitors Earth’s history and civilizations, begins to respond to Lebedev’s questions, offering a judgment on interstellar contact that has the potential to shape humanity’s future. Yet Yulya’s unwavering love and willingness to protect Hekon prompt the computer to rewrite its initial conclusions, softening its stance on Earth and its inhabitants.

In the aftermath, life on Earth returns to a fragile equilibrium as the spaceship departs, releasing excess water back into the atmosphere. Artyom is arrested and presumably sent to a prison camp, his path diverging entirely from the peace that Yulya and Hekon have managed to preserve. The film ends on a haunting, hopeful note, as a melodic voice from Yulya carries the final truth of their experience.

The truth is that one alien from far away trusted us more than we trust ourselves.

The ending lingers with a quiet awe, reminding viewers that courage, love, and a willingness to see beyond fear can reshape what humanity thinks is possible, even when the price is steep and the future uncertain.
