Ashta Chamma

The film opens with ardent female fans of Mahesh Babu, focusing on Lavanya who becomes obsessed with marrying him. She is crushed when she learns he has married someone else. Lavanya declares that her future husband must be named Mahesh, even tattooing the name on her skin.

Mandira Devi begins a hunt for a groom for Lavanya, despite Lavanya’s protests. Anand, the friendly neighbor, promises to help and soon encounters a man named Mahesh in a bar. Anand then introduces Mahesh to Lavanya, hinting at a potential match.

Lavanya shows Mahesh a tattoo and a wallet photo that seem to confirm a real identity. Anand discovers a young woman named Rambabu on the back of a photo and confronts Mahesh. Mahesh then reveals his true name is Rambabu, triggering a pivotal shift in the tale.

Rambabu is the idolized village head of Lakkavaram, living under the burden of his godlike image. His only family is Varalakshmi, whom he adores, and Ammaji, his caretaker. He secretly escapes to Hyderabad, assuming the name Mahesh to enjoy a break from responsibilities.

Anand travels to Lakkavaram and introduces himself to Varalakshmi as Mahesh, Rambabu's friend from Hyderabad. Varalakshmi is drawn to the supposed Mahesh, and she calls Rambabu to tell him that Mahesh has arrived. The web of deception grows as the two strangers become entangled with Varalakshmi.

Learning of Varalakshmi's fixation on the name, Anand decides to rename himself Mahesh. He seeks help from Sarva Sarma, a priest, and pays a large fee to perform the rituals. The plan heightens the confusion around identity and affection.

Rambabu returns to Lakkavaram and warns Anand to stop pursuing the issue of the name and Varalakshmi. The confrontation underscores the fragility of his claimed identity and his love for Varalakshmi.

Anand arranges Lavanya to elope to Lakkavaram to secure their bond. In the ensuing encounter, both Varalakshmi and Lavanya mistake the other for the beloved Mahesh, leading to a chaotic confrontation. The absence of a real Mahesh becomes increasingly evident.

With no genuine Mahesh to unite them, the roomful misunderstandings dissipate and Lavanya remains disheartened. Since there are no buses back to Hyderabad until the next day, she ends up staying in Lakkavaram for the day. The tension continues to simmer.

To prevent Lavanya from leaving, Anand calls Mandira, who has just returned from a trip. Mandira heads to Lakkavaram, hoping to resolve the turmoil and decide Lavanya's fate. Amrutha's past and the identity tangled web weigh on everyone.

Ammaji returns from pilgrimage and reveals that her real name is Anasuya. She explains how she once found Rambabu's baby on a train and later settled in Lakkavaram as his caretaker. Rambabu confronts the deeper history of his origins and his adopted status.

Mandira reveals that Amrutha is Rambabu's birth mother, not Ammaji. Amrutha and her husband arrive in Lakkavaram, bringing the truth home. A tangle of past secrets is untangled as the family meets.

Amrutha shows Lavanya a photo of baby Rambabu with the back reading 'Mahesh Babu', revealing the name given before kidnapping. Lavanya learns that Rambabu's name was indeed Mahesh Babu and finally accepts him as Mahesh. Anand and Varalakshmi decide to marry, and Ammaji supports Sarva Sarma's marriage arrangement.

The film closes with Mandira's obsession continuing, but this time directed at the actor Pawan Kalyan. The obsession motif circles back, underscoring the film's satire of fan culture. The ensemble settles into their futures amid the still-haunting fixation on celebrity names.
