Hutch Mansell, portrayed by Bob Odenkirk, lives a mundane life, grappling with a strained marriage to Becca, played by Connie Nielsen. Together they have two children, Blake (Gage Munroe) and Abby (Paisley Cadorath), and Hutch juggles an unremarkable office job.
One fateful night, his world is turned upside down when intruders break into their home. Although Hutch initially prepares to defend his family, he ultimately hesitates, allowing the thieves to escape. Blake even manages to grab one of them, but Hutch asks his son to let the thief go, revealing his conflicted sense of morality. It becomes apparent that the world views Hutch as a failure. However, he confides in his brother Harry about why he held back—the burglars were armed with an unloaded weapon.
Amidst this personal turmoil, Hutch's father-in-law Eddie (Michael Ironside) becomes involved in his life, pushing him to take a stand. Meanwhile, his own father David (Christopher Lloyd) surprises everyone by swiftly dispatching two assassins sent to eliminate Hutch.
In a twist of fate, Hutch employs the gold to purchase his father-in-law's metal fabrication factory, wherein he incinerates Yulian’s stash of stolen funds. Intent on hoarding power, he booby traps the factory to prepare for a confrontation.
When Yulian and his men surround Hutch, he attempts to broker peace by suggesting retirement in a more serene Caribbean locale. However, Yulian is unwilling to back down, leading to a ruthless showdown. As bullets fly in the factory, Hutch finds unexpected support from his brother Harry (The RZA) and father, which turns the tide in his favor.
Utilizing a range of deadly traps he meticulously set up, Hutch eliminates Yulian's crew alongside Harry and David. Though he faces arrest, mysterious circumstances lead to his release without charges. Three months later, while house-hunting with Becca, Hutch receives a call that hints at his past life needing his skills once again.
