Indhu Rebecca Varghese boards a plane to New Delhi to receive the Ashoka Chakra on behalf of Major Mukund Varadarajan. During the journey, she reminisces about their life together and Mukund's decades of military service.

Young Mukund is drawn to the Indian Armed Forces during his college years in Chennai. He and Indhu meet there, and their affection grows despite religious differences between their families.

After college, Mukund enlists in the Indian Army and trains at the Officers Training Academy in Chennai. He is commissioned as a lieutenant in the Rajput Regiment, marking the start of his military career.

Despite geographic separation and his family's initial reluctance to marry a soldier, Mukund and Indhu wed. Their marriage marks the beginning of a life that must span deployments, distance, and shared dreams.

Not long after, Indhu becomes pregnant and they welcome a daughter. The growing family provides emotional grounding as Mukund pursues his duties.

Mukund is posted as a Major to Rashtriya Rifles in the volatile Jammu and Kashmir theatre. He confronts the brutal realities of insurgency while balancing duty and family.

Within local communities, Mukund earns trust and strives to bridge the gap between the army and civilians. He navigates social circles to gather intelligence on militants while trying to preserve empathy.

During a convoy operation, militants led by Altaf Baba attack the unit. Mukund fights fiercely and, with Sepoy Vikram Singh's help, kills Baba, earning the respect of his men and his commanding officer.

In a counter-militancy operation at Qazipathri village in Shopian, Mukund leads a team to neutralize militants hiding in a safe house. He commands his men to protect civilians and coordinates under the gathering darkness. Mukund and Vikram enter the safe house and engage the militants. All three militants are killed, but Mukund is wounded.

Despite attempts to transfer him to a medical center, Mukund succumbs to his injuries. His death devastates the regiment and prompts a solemn salute from his commanding officer.

Back home, Mukund's distraught family performs his last rites. The bereaved household confronts the enormity of their loss while honoring his sacrifice.

Later, Indhu receives the Ashoka Chakra during a presidential ceremony in New Delhi, reaffirming Mukund's valor. She finds strength in knowing he lived and died as a true soldier.

The closing credits feature actual archival footage from Mukund's life and his family's story, grounding the film in real events.
