In 3600 BC, a powerful mutant known as En Sabah Nur reigns over ancient Egypt. As he faces the end of his life due to deteriorating health, he possesses formidable abilities like Telekinesis, Cyberpathy, and the power to enhance others. In a desperate bid for immortality, Nur undergoes a rite where his consciousness is to be transferred into a younger mutant. However, betrayal strikes as conspirators sever his access to sunlight, resulting in incomplete transfer and the death of his followers, known as the Horsemen of Apocalypse. Buried alive within a collapsing pyramid, Nur’s new body is safeguarded by a devoted follower before the tomb is lost.
Fast forward to 1983, a cult manages to uncover Nur’s entombed location and inadvertently revives him by restoring sunlight to his burial site. Awakening in a world he believes lost without his guiding hand, Nur’s return causes a global tremor, signaling his intent to recreate the world. He recruits Ororo Munroe/Storm, a gifted pickpocket from Cairo with weather manipulation powers, and amplifies her abilities.
Meanwhile, in East Berlin, shape-shifting mutant Raven/Mystique stumbles upon an underground fight club. There, she discovers Angel (played by Benyu Zhang) and Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler. Raven rescues Kurt and enlists the help of the black marketeer Caliban (woefully played by Tomas Lemarquis) to transport them to America.
Nur’s influence expands as he enlists Psylocke (portrayed by Olivia Munn) and further transforms Angel’s abilities, equipping him with powerful metal wings. On a personal front, Alex Summers/Havok endeavors to guide his younger brother Scott/Cyclops, whose own abilities are surfacing wildly, to the safe haven of Professor Charles Xavier’s institute.
As worldwide disturbances escalate due to Nur’s awakening, Moira MacTaggert (played by Rose Byrne) approaches Xavier, unwittingly revealing information about Nur’s past. Simultaneously, Jean Grey (portrayed by Sophie Turner) begins having disturbing visions of impending doom linked to an ominous force.
In Poland, the mutant Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto is living a quiet life until tragedy strikes, prompting him to reclaim his powerful identity. Nur finds Erik and rekindles the darkness within him by leading him back to his roots at Auschwitz, where his powers first emerged, ultimately acquiring Erik’s allegiance.
This series of events leads to a showdown where Xavier, using Cerebro, locates Erik but finds himself ensnared within Nur’s mental power play, forcing global nuclear arsenals to launch into space. As Nur gathers his horsemen, Xavier’s institute comes under attack, leading to catastrophic consequences when Peter Maximoff/Quicksilver arrives just in time to evacuate the students from a deadly explosion.
Captured alongside his friends, Hank McCoy/Beast, Raven, and Peter, Scott and Kurt embark on a daring rescue aided by Wolverine/Logan (the formidable Hugh Jackman), leading to a climactic battle against Nur who aims to dominate the planet using Xavier’s powers.
With fierce determination, Jean, guided by Xavier, learns to harness her abilities to confront Nur, leading to his eventual demise. The fallout of their confrontation leads to the reestablishment of Xavier’s institute, where he begins training a new wave of young mutants, including Scott, Jean, and others.
In a suspenseful post-credits scene, agents of the Essex Corporation invade the Weapon X facility, hinting at further exploits tied to mutant experimentation, leaving the future uncertain and thrilling.
