Nathan, portrayed by Taylor Lautner, is just an ordinary high school student in Pennsylvania who enjoys spending time with friends and boxing with his father. However, he grapples with intense rage and struggles to define his identity, so he seeks help from his therapist, a shrink played by Sigourney Weaver. Beyond his emotional turmoil, Nathan is also quite skilled in wrestling and kickboxing. When he’s paired with his crush, Karen, played by Lily Collins, for a school project, things start to take a dark turn.

Their project leads them to a disturbing website for missing children, and during their exploration, they come across an alarming resemblance to Nathan himself. This discovery triggers a response from law enforcement in New York City, where the tech personnel on duty, Nickola Shreli, quickly activates a trace on Nathan’s webcam, alerting a mysterious figure named Mr. Kozlow, portrayed by Michael Nyqvist. As Nathan digs deeper, he shares unsettling old photographs with his friend Gilly, who grows suspicious and confronts Nathan’s mother, played by Maria Bello. Tragically, she becomes a target and is murdered by operatives before revealing any truths.

With danger closing in, Nathan’s father, Jason Isaacs, attempts to defend their home but meets a similar fate. In a frenzied moment, Nathan escapes, but not before he must confront the armed operative trailing him. In a heart-pounding process to save Karen, Nathan discovers there’s a bomb in their kitchen with only seven seconds on the clock! They leap into the pool just as chaos erupts behind them. Nathan quickly takes Karen to the hospital, desperate for help as he grapples with the aftermath of his parents’ murder.

In a twist of fate, his call for help connects him to Frank Burton, played by Alfred Molina, who operates with the CIA. Burton advises Nathan to remain stationary, alerting him that Kozlow’s men have their eyes on him too. Meanwhile, Dr. Bennett, his shrink, uses creative means to shield Nathan from surveillance, revealing her own ties to the CIA. She provides him with a safe haven in Virginia, just before tragedy strikes again when an attempt on their lives is narrowly evaded.

As they evade capture, Nathan and Karen awaken in the woods, seemingly refreshed, only to find themselves entrenched in a larger conspiracy. Meanwhile, Burton briefs his team about Nathan’s true parentage and the stolen data from Kozlow. Their journey leads them to the safe house, where they discover more secrets and even a cryptic phone with significant messages from Nathan’s past.

Their chaotic journey stretches over train rides and wilderness escapades, filled with narrow escapes and emotional confrontations with their own fears and enemies. Just as they think they are safe, the threats loom larger, revealing the depth of Nathan’s hidden skills and the importance of uncovering the truth about his lineage.

The film culminates in tense showdowns during a meeting that puts Nathan’s and Karen’s lives at risk, as well as the lives of those they care about. With Nathan unveiling his latent abilities and going toe-to-toe with Kozlow, whom he confronts in a heart-stopping chase, he finds himself on the brink of discovering not only who he is but also who his true allies are.

After surviving the harrowing ordeal, Nathan and Karen share a poignant reunion, and Dr. Bennett offers him a chance at a new life. Their journey together is marked by unyielding support, with Nathan transitioning into a life that holds promise while managing the remnants of his tumultuous past. As they sit in an empty stadium, lost in each other’s presence, it’s a moment filled with hope amidst the chaos they endured.
