A Star Is Born

Jackson Maine, portrayed by Bradley Cooper, is a celebrated country music singer grappling with a severe struggle against alcohol and drug addiction. During a concert in California, he is supported by his older half-brother and manager, Sam Elliott, who has his own son to look after. After the show, Jackson decides to visit a drag bar to find some refreshment, where he witnesses an enchanting performance by Lady Gaga, who plays Ally—an aspiring singer-songwriter and waitress. Ally’s friend, Anthony Ramos, serves as the bouncer at the bar.

Intrigued by Ally’s talent, Jackson is introduced to her backstage by Ramon, and the two spend the night getting to know each other. Ally reveals the difficulties she has faced in her pursuit of a music career, including cruel comments about her appearance. Brimming with encouragement, Jackson tells her she has a distinct voice and should showcase her songwriting abilities. He emphasizes the importance of having something meaningful to say and also the power of expression.

When an aggressive patron attempts to take an unwanted photo with Jackson, Ally intervenes, leading to an altercation. To help her soothe a swollen hand, Jackson takes Ally to a grocery store for frozen peas, where they bond over personal histories. Jackson recounts his troubled past: his father’s mid-life crisis led to abandonment, and he lost both parents at a young age. Ally, on the other hand, lives with her father, Lorenzo, who works as a limo driver.

Despite her initial reluctance, Ally attends Jackson’s next performance at his invitation. With his encouragement, she joins him on stage, and they begin to flourish both personally and professionally, culminating in a romantic relationship. Their journey takes them to Jackson’s family ranch in Arizona, where he discovers that Bobby sold the land without his knowledge, leading to a confrontation between the brothers.

As Ally’s music career takes off, facilitated by a record producer named Rez, played by Rafi Gavron, Jackson struggles with the changes and the pressure of her newfound fame. He continues to support her, although it’s clear he is fighting his own demons. When Ally marries Rez impromptu, Jackson warns her about the importance of authenticity in her relationship with her fans.

The tension escalates when Jackson’s struggles with addiction cause him to miss a significant performance of Ally’s. After a series of ups and downs, including a drunken mishap at the Grammys where Ally wins an award, Jackson enters rehab, striving to regain control of his life.

However, the challenges persist, culminating in tragic heartbreak when Jackson takes his own life after believing he is a burden to Ally. In the aftermath of his death, Ally is shattered but finds solace in a song Jackson had written. She decides to honor him by performing it at a tribute concert, introducing herself finally as Ally Maine, marking a poignant transition in her career while carrying Jackson’s legacy with her.
