Their destination is a modest ranch house on the outskirts of civilization, a place marketed as a sanctuary where self‑sufficiency promises a return to simpler comforts, even as the world beyond trembles with uncertainty.

The couple arrives with contrasting expectations. Jessica is prudent and uneasy about leaving the life she knows, yet she is drawn to the promise of safety that the open land offers.
