Since he's currently unemployed and living with his parents, he fabricates a story about a better life to make himself seem worthy of her. This lie stems from his insecurity about his current situation and his desire to present himself favorably to someone from his past.

Earlier, his sister Jung-hyun pressures him to clean up his act for their mother's birthday, hinting at his pattern of avoiding responsibility.

The rooftop door is locked, which is common in many buildings for security and safety reasons. This forces Yong-nam to improvise by smashing a window and using his climbing skills to reach the adjacent building, opening the door for his family from the other side.

The rescue helicopter has a strict weight limit, and there isn't enough capacity to take both Yong-nam and Eui-joo along with his family. This forces them to stay behind while his parents and sister are evacuated, creating a critical moment where they must find another way to survive.
