On a windswept beach in the peninsula town of Port Gamble, a blind resident discovers a rotting zombie washed ashore and the creature suddenly stirs to life, sparking a nightmarish chain of events. On September 25, 2003, Frida Abbas, Janette Armand, returns home after leaving Princeton, and at a gas station she crosses paths with her neighbor Joe Miller, Russell Hodgkinson, his wife Judy Miller, Victoria Drake, and their teenage son Brian Miller, Andrew Hyde. What begins as a routine reunion quickly spirals into a townwide crisis as a mysterious outbreak spreads with terrifying speed.

Frida, meanwhile, arrives at her house to find her father, Ali Abbas, Ali Hamedani, deep in prayer. She slips away with her boyfriend Derek Blaine, Brendon Ryan Barrett, while the town’s fragile calm is rapidly eroded by the unsettling events unfolding beyond their walls.
