Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century

Zenon Kar is a spirited girl living with her family aboard an Earth-orbiting space station in 2049. When a reckless misstep brings her into conflict with the station’s strict Cmd. Edward Plank, Zenon earns a punishment: she must relocate to Earth to live with her Aunt Judy Kling. On Earth, the vast expanse of space feels far away, and Zenon struggles to fit in with classmates who find her space-station stories and slang odd. The schoolyard feels like a foreign country, and Zenon often feels two steps out of sync with pop culture, while her new peers sense she’s carrying a world of stories in her backpack.

Despite the initial friction, Zenon begins to find friendship on the ground. She bonds with two boys, Andrew and Greg, who help her see that being different can be a strength rather than a liability. As she learns to navigate new friendships, school dynamics, and everyday life on Earth, Zenon starts to understand that first impressions aren’t the whole story—people can surprise you when you give them a chance.

Back on the space station, a darker plot starts to unfold. The ambitious Parker Wyndham aims to crash the habitat by unleashing a computer virus, intending to profit from an insurance payout. Zenon tries to warn her worried parents, but Cmd. Plank remains skeptical of her claims, convinced that children are more trouble than they’re worth. Wyndham’s plan is supported by a slick ally who wants to keep the adults in the dark, making Zenon’s mission to be heard even more perilous and urgent.

With time running out, Zenon, together with her Earthbound friends, races to counter the threat. They discover a computer antivirus created by Andrew that could stop the virus, and the team resolves to deliver it to the space station. The journey leads them to the launch yard, where Zenon must board a rocket bound for the orbiting world she calls home. A break comes when Proto Zoa joins the adventure; the pop-star is about to depart for a big concert on the station and, after recognizing Zenon from the Dance with Proto Zoa contest, agrees to help by inviting her aboard the launch to the station. The fusion of music, technology, and courage injects fresh momentum into the rescue mission.

As the rocket nears orbit, Wyndham and his accomplice make a last, desperate move to stop Zenon before she can reach the station. Mr. Lutz, Wyndham’s ruthless associate, eagerly pursues them, while Zenon’s Aunt Judy follows to offer support in an unlikely confrontation at the heart of the crisis. When the ship finally lands, Cmd. Plank is shocked to see Zenon alive and well, but he remains wary until the antivirus software is successfully loaded onto the station’s systems. The lifesaving upload buys crucial time and proves Zenon’s warnings were not a fantasy after all.

In the end, the threat is neutralized: Wyndham is arrested alongside his collaborator, and the station returns to a sense of security just as the Microbe concert fills the air with celebration. The entire crew—scientists, students, and spacefarers alike—learned a valuable lesson about trust, resilience, and looking beyond first impressions. Zenon’s journey from a rule-bending girl on a space station to a brave advocate who helps avert disaster highlights how curiosity, friendship, and courage can unite people from different worlds into a shared future.
