Beaver Mills wakes to a quiet morning interrupted when a wyvern, freed by melting ice, emerges from the lake and launches its attack on a fisherman. The town braces for the unknown threat as news of the beast spreads. This marks the first direct encounter between the predator and the residents.

In Beaver Mills, Jake Suttner works as a café handyman while reflecting on a truck accident months earlier that killed his brother. He waits for his insurance claim to be settled, trying to keep life normal amid the growing danger outside.

Sheriff Dawson and Jake respond to the gunshots and discover Haas, a wyvern victim, at a lakeside location. They find a bloody arm nearby and realize Doctor David is missing, linking the incident to a larger threat.

Dawson calls Claire to gather the townspeople and orders Deputy Susie to investigate the arm's location. The search underscores that something dangerous is loose, and the town prepares for a possible evacuation.

The Colonel reports odd happenings at home—a missing dog and a moose head in his hot tub—and glimpses the wyvern, confirming the threat. He asks Vinyl Hampton to broadcast an emergency warning, but she refuses, citing higher authority.

Dawson goes to the barn, finds the owner and animals dead, and slips on the blood, knocking himself unconscious. The town remains on edge as the mystery deepens and the wyvern grows bolder.

Vinyl spots the wyvern at her window and makes an emergency broadcast attempt; the creature rips out the antenna, halting the transmission.

Dawson regains consciousness and instructs Susie to stop the solstice festival and send everyone home. Susie begins a megaphone warning, but the wyvern swoops in and kills her, plunging the crowd into chaos.

Jake and Claire, joined by the Colonel, track the wyvern to a forest mound and discover three large orange eggs inside a nest. The wyvern then drops Doctor David into town as bait to draw people away from the café.

Claire, Jake, Haas, Vinyl, and the Colonel electrify the nest using objects the beast has used in construction, stunning the wyvern before it escapes. Haas is killed in the attack, and the Colonel warns that the eggs could be bait, but Jake argues against destroying them prematurely.

With the nest still a threat, Jake devises a plan to lure the wyvern by using Doc David's GPS and an egg strapped to a truck as bait. He volunteers to drive the vehicle toward the beast, seeking to end the threat with a calculated ruse.

The plan leads Jake to the wyvern on the road; the truck crashes over a cliff and explodes as the beast attacks. Jake bails out and survives, the operation seemingly a success.

As darkness falls, the survivors wait at Claire's café for Jake's return. He reappears alive, claiming he doesn't need the truck and that he prefers staying there with Claire.

The town breathes after the night’s chaos, and Jake’s survival marks a new start; he glances at Claire and asserts he does not need the past or the rig, signaling a possible future together in Beaver Mills.
