Beaver Mills, a remote Alaskan town north of the Arctic Circle, gears up for its annual summer solstice celebration when the sun never fully sets. As the town prepares for the long day ahead, a wyvern—a dragon-like predator—emerges from melting ice and launches a brutal attack on a fisherman by a nearby lake.
Jake Suttner, Nick Chinlund, works as a handy ice-truck driver and keeps busy at a local café while waiting for an insurance claim tied to a truck accident that claimed his brother’s life months earlier. Early one morning, Sheriff Dawson, John Shaw, and Jake hear gunshots. They stumble upon Haas, Barry Corbin, gravely wounded by the wyvern. They doubt the initial report at first, but a bloodied arm found nearby confirms that the danger is real, and the three men rush back to town with concerns for the missing doctor, Doc David Yates, David James Lewis.
Back in Beaver Mills, Dawson reaches out to Claire, the café owner, asking her to gather the townspeople while they search for the missing doctor. Deputy Susie arrives with the arm, and Dawson insists she store it in the cooler at the precinct as a precaution. He warns everyone to stay careful, because a predator is loose in the area, but he must attend to another incident as duties call.
Meanwhile, Colonel Travis Sherman, Don S. Davis, has already faced a run of odd happenings at home—his dog disappears and a moose’s head appears in his hot tub. He spots the wyvern at close range and tries to warn the town, but his pleas fall on deaf ears. He asks Vinyl Hampton, Tinsel Korey, who runs the town’s radio station, to broadcast an emergency alert, yet she refuses, citing orders from higher authorities.
Dawson orders Deputy Susie to monitor the solstice festivities, and she keeps vigil at the site. He later investigates a barn where owner and animals lie dead, but a slip on the blood leaves him unconscious. Vinyl’s attempt to warn the town through the radio is thwarted when the wyvern rips out the antenna, cutting the signal.
After Dawson recovers, he phones Susie to halt the festival and direct everyone home. Susie begins the warning over a megaphone, but the wyvern swoops up behind her and kills her, silencing the crowd. Haas and Vinyl take shelter in the café as chaos erupts around them.
Jake and Claire eventually track the wyvern to a forest mound and run into the Colonel again. The interstate outside town becomes a chaotic corridor of stopped cars, trucks, and RVs as the wyvern’s rampage closes in, effectively trapping Beaver Mills. In their search for safety, they stumble upon a nest hidden nearby—a discovery that includes three large, dark orange eggs and a badly injured Doc David Yates, whom the wyvern drags away.
Back in town, Sheriff Dawson is slain by the beast, leaving Claire, Jake, the Colonel, Haas, and Vinyl to regroup. Farley, a local resident, is scraped by the creature’s tail and is brought into the café to survive what comes next.
The wyvern uses David Yates as bait, dropping him in the middle of town to lure people out of the café. Jake rushes to save him, while Farley distracts the predator but pays with his life. David reveals that the wyvern possesses eggs, and then dies from his injuries. The surviving group devises a plan to destroy the nest by turning the wyvern’s own materials against it, electrifying the nest. They succeed in shocking the wyvern, killing it, but Haas is killed in the process. The Colonel begins shooting at the eggs, but Jake intervenes, arguing that the eggs could be used as bait for a final trap.
With the threat temporarily contained, the survivors depart Beaver Mills, driven by the possibility that Jake’s insurance claim might finally be fulfilled—a brand-new truck tractor lying abandoned along the road seems like the sign they needed. Jake rigs the tractor with Doc’s GPS and an egg strapped to the vehicle as a lure, and heads off alone.
As the GPS indicates he’s nearing his target, the wyvern closes in, attacking the improvised weapon. The tractor plunges off a cliff and explodes, leaving the town on edge and waiting for news.
In the café, Claire, the others, and the spectators await Jake’s return. He eventually appears, strolling toward the doorway and sharing a quiet, hopeful moment with Claire as she embraces him. The fate of the rugged trap and the town’s survival linger in the air, but Jake’s steady resolve hints at a quiet perseverance in the face of danger.
