In 1995, Oregon, a hiker goes missing, sparking concerns that a virulent virus is spreading from wildlife. This incident sets the backdrop for a series of events that unfold in the wilderness.

Grady Lovell, a hunter, takes his son Blake to a hunting blind. While in the woods, Grady spots a mysterious creature through his sniper lens but tragically fails to take the shot, leaving both of them on edge.

Grady's strict parenting leads to a strained relationship with Blake. An incident occurs where Grady's aggressive behavior impacts Blake, showcasing the emotional distance between them.

Thirty years later, Blake is now an adult living in San Francisco with his wife Charlotte and daughter Ginger. When Blake protects Ginger from an aggressive stranger, his anger leads to an emotional fallout with her.
