Appointed pastor to an isolated 15th‑century Icelandic parish, the pious Jon follows tradition by marrying his predecessor’s older widow. To root out Satan, he wields unquestioned authority. When he falls for a striking young woman, he blames witchcraft and launches a brutal campaign that condemns villagers. His lust drives him deeper into madness.
