The next day Linda uses Brandon's board that was left behind to contact David again. David directs Linda to the location of her lost engagement ring, implying he can access real-world knowledge through the spirit. This moment reinforces her belief in the board's powers.

At Jim's construction site, Lloyd is killed when drywall collapses unexpectedly. Jim is questioned about the accident at Lloyd's funeral while Linda contacts David, who insists he did not cause it. The boundary between spirit-driven misfortune and real danger begins to blur.

Linda becomes increasingly preoccupied with contacting David as the spirit tightens its hold on her. She experiences nausea and other symptoms that hint at pregnancy, as Jim and Brandon grow more concerned. The threat feels personal and intimate as the haunt intensifies.

The next morning, Brandon learns of Zarabeth's death and suspects David is responsible, though Jim remains skeptical. The idea of a murderous, unseen force now feels personal to them. Linda's erratic behavior continues to alarm their circle.

Linda is discharged from the hospital, but Malfeitor's influence returns and she attacks again. Dewhurst arrives, accusing Jim of the murders, while Linda taunts him as the 'portal' that could drive him to suicide. Jim fights back, shoots the board, and is hurled through a window onto a car, surviving. The immediate threat seems to subside, but the supernatural danger remains.

In the aftermath, Jim and Linda marry and try to move on with their lives. Their landlady, Mrs. Moses, finds the returned board and contemplates its power. In a final, eerie coda, the planchette on the box drifts to 'yes' by itself, suggesting the danger may not be entirely gone.
