Rosser vanishes in Beirut, triggering an urgent search by British intelligence. With no replacement available on short notice, MacGillivray decides to recruit a capable agent.

With no replacement available on short notice, MacGillivray decides to recruit Doctor Jason Love, a former intelligence operative from World War II. Love accepts the mission and uses his medical cover to travel to Beirut under the guise of attending a medical convention.

In Rome, Love meets his contact Vikki, a fashion model who seems friendly. The meeting foreshadows the complex espionage ahead as Love misses his Beirut flight.

Love watches his Beirut flight depart without him and decides to stay behind. Seconds later the plane explodes in mid air, killing many aboard and setting the mission in motion.

Love arrives in Beirut and teams with another agent, Parkington, to uncover a communist plot to assassinate the pro British Prince of Zahlouf. The plan threatens British eastern oil treaties and the mission becomes urgent.

A Russian agent reveals that Rosser is dead, and Parkington is killed shortly after. The failure of the mission becomes personal for Love as danger closes in.

Back at his hotel, Love is confronted by Vikki, who admits she is a double agent. She warns him to leave Beirut immediately to avoid being drawn further into the plot.

Love foils the assassination by wrestling a rifle from a hitman posing as a background Arab during Vikki's photo shoot. The shot fires into the crowd and Love is chased onto a roof.

Love is rescued by a helicopter, but it soon becomes clear that the aircraft is manned by Russians who intend to collect the assassin rather than save him. The mission takes a turn as Love questions their true purpose.

Stanilaus, the top Russian spy in the region, secretly smuggles Love onto the Dove of Peace jet returning to Russia and tries to extract information from him. Love answers honestly, but Stanilaus is not convinced.

Simmias defects, revealing Love's predicament to the British. When the plane flies over Canada, the British arrange a fake emergency to transport victims out, but Stanilaus remains wary.

Love activates a hidden device in his tooth that disrupts the jet avionics, complicating the Russians' plans. Stanilaus reluctantly agrees to help as the situation grows more dangerous.

On the ground in Canada, Stanilaus grows suspicious as there are no victims to rescue and orders the jet to take off. Vikki shoots Stanilaus, enabling Love to escape, but Vikki is killed in the ensuing chaos.
