Where Danger Lives

Dr. Jeff Cameron treats a mentally disturbed attempted suicide victim. She signs herself out of the hospital and sends him a telegram inviting him to meet her. He goes to her mansion and breaks a date with his nurse girlfriend Julie because he fears she may attempt suicide again.

Jeff and Margo fall in love and begin seeing one another. Their relationship grows despite Jeff's initial reservations and Margo's enigmatic past. They become romantically involved.

Margo tells Jeff she will fly to Nassau with her aged father the next day. A tipsy Jeff proclaims his love to Frederick Lannington, who then reveals that Margo is his wife. Jeff leaves the scene shaken and confused.

Jeff returns after a scream and discovers Lannington has been knocked down and unconscious in a struggle. Later it is revealed that Lannington died from his injuries, apparently smothered. Jeff is drawn into the domestic dispute and is persuaded by Margo to run away rather than call the police.

The couple tries to use airline tickets but spots policemen and abandons the plan. They decide to drive to Mexico instead, trading Margo's convertible for a pickup truck from a dodgy dealer called Honest Hal.

Jeff diagnoses his headaches and mental fog as a concussion and warns Margo that it could progress to paralysis and then a coma within 24 to 48 hours. He grows more wary of their plan as Margo's instability becomes clearer.

In Postville, Arizona, they are taken to the sheriff for traveling without a beard during the towns Wild West Whiskers Week. The police chief insists they must wed there, noting that marriages are a Postville specialty. The couple marries in town.

In their honeymoon suite, a radio broadcast reveals that Margo has been undergoing psychiatric treatment. They attempt to escape, but the police chief identifies Margo from a photo and alerts the border patrol, complicating their plans.

The fugitives sell Margo's nine thousand dollar bracelet to a pawnbroker for about a thousand dollars. The pawnbroker sends them to theater owner Milo DeLong, who offers to smuggle them into Mexico for another thousand.

Jeff's left side becomes paralyzed and he realizes Margo is mentally unstable and the killer of her husband. He decides not to go to Mexico. When he tries to stop Margo from leaving, she knocks him down and smothers him, though he survives.

The police shoot and fatally wound Margo after she shoots at Jeff at the border. The police initially consider Jeff an accomplice to Lannington's murder, but before she dies she says she acted alone and that Jeff did not know what happened.

Back in the hospital, Jeff asks the doctor if he can send flowers to San Francisco. The doctor says yes and sends Julie in to see him, hinting at a possible reconciliation.
